Looking to remove the charcoal canister/filter assembly in the rear of the car, and just vent the tank to atmosphere. Has anyone done this? Will I get any warning lights or other computer problems?
Reasons for removal are simple weight reduction and to aid in fuel tank filling.
Any input (negative or positive) is welcome...

Thanks.

I’ve done it on a few cars. I removed everything including the stainless line that runs to the front of the car and the “solenoid” on the strut tower it runs to.

They didn’t throw any lights or codes.

Ran vent to atmosphere.

Tank fills better now.

Okay.. I just tried this out:
-Unplugged the wiring connector at the rear, at the EVAP system.
-Unplugged the wiring connector under the hood, on the driver side shock tower.
-Removed the rubber hose off the tank vent line (the line on the pass. side).
-Removed the hose off the intake from the solenoid valve, and capped the intake port.

After the 2nd start, I got the yellow engine-shaped warning light. I definitely do not want that light on continuously.

Is it possible that I need an EVAP system "bypass" tune written, or have I missed something? The car is almost totally stock, except for a CAI, and a BAMA tuner.

Thanks for the help....

Tune will need to be adjusted to turn off the lights.

When I did mine I also put the small filter back on. It's a small black box with a foam filter inside of it. Otherwise your gas tank will have a open hose, not sure if it would suck anything in thru it, I didn't want to take a chance.

Cool. Thanks for the support, guys. I have an order submitted for a new Bama tune to eliminate my EVAP alarms. Once downloaded. I'll yank all that equipment off the car.

I appreciate the help.

I ran a 5/8 hose across the car and up the filler hose and capped it with a small filter. Nothing is getting in there and I don't get any gas smell out of it.

Another way of doing it.

It’s 100% emissions. To be emissions legal you can’t vent a tank to the atmosphere. The stock setup does some dance with the tank fumes that involves a charcoal canisters and circulating it through the motor.

If I remember everything correctly it saves 16lbs and cleans some crap out of the engine compartment.

I don't have a pic but I jumped the 5/8" hose into the stainless line that comes out of the tank so it still has the quick release setup going on. So if anyone is going this direction don't chuck that part of the stock system in the trash.

I just did mine. I left the one under the the hood hooked up and on the back I pulled the connector off the whole assembly and hooked it up and zip tied it for now. I did this till I can get tuner to turn it off. As to the vent I just cut the hard line from the tank right above the axle. I don't get any fumes and it fills better now. The only line I didn't remove was the one going from the back of the car to the front. On the intake I just pulled the rubber hose off the connector and the went to napa and got a 3/8 vacume cover to cap it off.

Somewhere in the system is a valve to prevent fuel from leaking out in case of a rollover...or is that in the tank?

UPDATE: All EVAP equipment removed. Tank vented to atmosphere. I got the "check engine" light after removing everything. I contacted BAMA/American Muscle for a new tune, but it didn't remove all of the trouble codes. I am having a new tune written and it will include the omission of codes P0443, P0446, and P0453. Have I missed any? I am hoping this will finally fix the situation.
Anyone else experience similar issues?

My has been long gone, along with the spare tire area all together.

Just a few changes in the tune to turn off all the evap stuff and I was good to go.

Long overdue update: I received an updated BAMA tune that addresses the 3 codes I listed above. All is well now. No more issues...

Thanks for the help, guys.

So bringing this one back, I have P0446 which needs to be disabled, but the head scratcher is I also have P0463 (Fuel Level Sensor High). The gas gage goes from F to E and the gas light comes on after about a minute or so of it running. The car has been sitting for a while, which is not out of the ordinary for it, and I was very careful in removing the system, and was no where near the fuel sending unit. Any ideas would be great.
