Hi all, not sure if im posting in the correct area but hope someone knows about 6R80 transmissions.

I put a Coyote with a 6R80 in a 609 mustang,
I have the doner transmission shifter but am using a Winters Sidewinder instead.
I noticed the stock shifter only has PRND2, but the trans has 6 positions after the P.
does anyone know what these are for?
in other words, my sidewinder has all those positions available, but i want to make sure i wont damage anything going into the positions that were not used.
thx

the detents in the sidewinder are more than likely going to be spaced differently rendering that shifter useless.

Not if he makes a custom linkage to account for the geometry difference. My brother made a 4R70W linkage to work with a factory C4 shifter with a customized linkage arm at the transmission. The C4 and 4R70W detents aren't the same.

The C4 and 4R70W detents are exactly the same, I think they refer to it as "2 inch spacing". The reason they seem different is variance in arm length and bracket mounting style required to use the same shifter on different transmission.
That's why all the adapter kits for the 4R70W swap are made to use C4/C6 shifters.
Not to take away from your response, you're right, making linkage is all it takes.

He used a green dot shifter and it didn't match up. So he changed the shift arm length on the trans

What is the green dot arm from? My trans started life as a 5.4 truck trans, so the arm is different than the Mustang arm. I'll def have to make something.

He modified the 4R shifter arm that came on the transmission to work with the shifter. I was wrong about the shifter. It was from a Foxbody. But the detent spacing wasn't the same.
