Awhile back I made a thread with a noise I was experiencing with my exhaust around 2.5k-3k rpms. I’ve come to the conclusion that this may be trumpeting. It almost sounds raspy or like a tick but goes away out of that rpm. I’ve tried multiple exhaust setups. I have an O/R X and two resonators currently. The two resonators I just changed to are twister race mufflers and my god they sound so deep and great at idle with the cams. I think I’m the only one that has put these on a s197. Anyway , the noise is still there but less pronounced than when I had two Jones turbine resonators. My resonators are mounted before the rear axle. The sound was gone completely when I had two magnaflow mufflers and the Jones turbine resonators but I didn’t like that “puff puff” of muffled sound of the magnaflows at idle. I like the deep tin canny sound. This sound is often heard in gear while giving it a medium amount of throttle. Does anyone else have this trumpeting sound? Can someone record what their exhaust sounds like INSIDE the car? The noise is only heard with the window open.

I've never heard of anyone curing trumpeting!! Once you have it it's terminal.

Mine was a brassy farting/queefing noise at part throttle below 3000.

Went away when I went back to stock bullitt exhaust from my kr mufflers!

Stayed gone when I went with an offroad h.

Will be back when I go to mid mounted glass packs and kr's so my no lift shift doesn't destroy everything.

Sounds like a harmonics issue. That's the same rpm range drone often seems to happen. There is some science that might be helpful on this. Look into J-tubes and see if that might help with this. I've read it can eliminate drone and drone is also a harmonics issue.

Ill try those and see. Almost sounds like its raspy in that area sounds like it's popping but that popping resonates and sounds like a Damm tick. I can only hear it inside the car. Not outside. I've had other people drive it and try to replicate it and I hear nothing

I think if you want the tin can raspy sound with a 3v you are going to deal with some trumpeting using an offroad H/X pipe. I got rid of it by switching to Borla, but they are not raspy like my Pypes Violators were.

I ordered bbk longtubes and their or/xpipe. Kinda sucks my exhaust guy can't make the ends to mate to the longtubes. I wanted to use mine. I'll do the LTHs and go from there I guess

I had this when I got lethal OAP minus resonators. Had resonators welded back in and 80% of that is gone. It is still there if you listen close. Good lord it was obnoxious as hell before that though and I do not have any idea how people can't hear it. Sounded fkn awful. Outside the car though, oddly, was much harder to detect vs in the cabin.

Yep can only hear it inside the car. Well, the BBK ceramic longtubes are in as well as the BBK of road x pipe. The noise definitely quieted down some but is very faint. I have two twister race resonators mid mounted of course. Almost no drone at all. Actually quiter inside which I'm happy with. Want something a little louder. Just want some recommendations on resonators that won't give it that metallic click/tick/raspy sound. Sounds super deep now.. Just want it a tad louder.

Well, I put slp shotgun resonators. Trumpeting got a crap ton louder.. But, I like how loud the car it. My resonators are mid mounted. I guess not much can be done for this noise..

I have tried nearly every setup I can think of. I have the bbk Ceramic longtubes, bbk o/r xpipe, i have tried mid mounted resonators WITH two axle backs (total of 4 resonators sound 95% gone but still loud) Now I have two bullet stlye slp shotgun mid mounted resonators. Sounds is god like at WOT but around 2800-3000K that "trumpeting" is god awful I want to smooth out the tone, but keep it loud...here we go again...gonna add two axle back mufflers. -_-

I have a very similar problem. The car had a set of Mac axle backs when I bought it and was otherwise bone stock. There was not "trumpeting". I put a set of Pypes longtube headers and Pypes O/R X pipe on the car and it started the "trumpeting" at around 2300-3000 rpm under part throttle or full throttle 4th or 5th gear. I installed a set of Detroit Rocker SC cams most recently and it still does the trumpeting, but in a slightly tighter RPM range. It's very annoying in the car, windows up and down. It sounds almost like one of the baffles in the Mac mufflers has come loose and is vibrating like crazy, but I don't have another set of mufflers to test.
