So I have recently found out that me and my wife are in a family way, I have mustang, and she has a 2 door civic, so we are going to have to trade in the civic, and get something a little more roomy, and Ford Flex is the only thing we can agree on.
I rented one a few years ago and drove it from Huntsville, AL to Chicago and back, it rode great and had a 6’6 y’all dude riding in the back that never complained about leg or head room. She has a 70 mile round trip commute so comfort wise I know it’s fine and the fuel economy I remember being decent which the one I rented was v6 non turbo. I was wondering if any one has experience with eco boost and how the reliability is with ecoboost or the n/a which one would be the way to go, I would be looking for 2016 and up, thanks

Eco boost is the only way to go

We have owned 3 flex’s 2 eco boost and one na

Wife loves her 2016 eco boost with heated seats. Merging has never been easier she just steps on it.

I would let your test drive each and decide

I know they have the power, just from more a reliability stand point is what rim curious of a friend of mine has an escape I think it is turbo went out at 97k and cost him 2500, which I don’t really think is too awful bad considering his wife drives over 2 mountains and about 100 miles a day so turbo definitely gets a work out, I would plan on keeping the car a long time at least 5 years and possible longer if it hold up well

Had one 4 years and the lasted so far 3 years and no issues other than normal stuff but we don’t put a ton of miles on them. Sorry can’t be of more help.

That’s cool I’m going to get one no matter what just if anyone knew some particular issues to be prepared for, I love those things, I’ve always been a sucker for wagons

I have a 2009 Flex. N/A, eco not offered in 09

105,000 miles. Only major mechanical issue was the power take off unit went around 60k, known issues with the 09s. We really like it. Gets about 24 mph highway unloaded and 22 full loaded up. Around town maybe gets 14-15

Had to replace the AC condenser, but that had a hole, could have been road debris, only other repair that jumps to mind was the blender door for the HVAC.

I’ve thought about upgrading to a newer model and eco boost, but the car is really just a station car for the most part and can’t see dropping the coin on one. However I’d buy another in a heartbeat.

Well those seem like issues that would be possible on any vehicle, other than the PTO, but still I haven’t heard anything bad about them, I can’t wait to get one now, once baby gets here and baby’s ok, and mommy’s well rested we will be headed to the Dealer, and riding out in style...as usual.

FWIW, with one kid, you don’t need a Flex, they are big, now maybe in Alabama it’s less of an issue, but around here, I hate parking the thing in most parking lots.

If you’re going to have 2 or more kids then the Flex is a great family car.

Yeah parking isn’t an issue, we don’t know if we will have more than one or not, but she hates her car anyways mostly because the steering wheel is too small. Just trying to plan ahead just in case
