My friend lost his motor on his 2010 GT. Was running a kenne bell with about 450 whp. We have found a donor 06 car and want to know if that motor will work in a 2010 car? Will we need to swap the harness and computer etc? I read through dozens of pages of info via search button but have not found any direct info on this. We live in Hawaii so finding a donor motor locally is HUGE. Any help would be appreciated.....thanks.

He'll only need to swap in the '06 long block engine. If your friend is going to continue running boost, he'd be well advised to break open the '06 engine and swap in forged rods/pistons.
Externally he'll need to swap in the '05-'08 coil packs to use with the '05-'08 style spark plugs.

Dino might be kind of a dumb question as I dont know anything about building motors. Can you literally just swap in forged rods/pistons and that will work? You dont have to redo everything?

At a minimum, swap in a set of forged rods/pistons with new rod bearings, upgrade the oil pump gears to TSS billet units, and swap in a set of ARP head studs.
Depending on the mileage and condition of the engine, you might need to replace other items such as the oil pump itself, water pump, timing chain/guide set, cam phasers, cam followers, and lash adjusters. At this point you could consider upgrading the cams and adding long tube headers. The latter will be much easier to install with the engine out.
While the heads are off, it would be a good idea to have the valves lapped and install new valve stem oil seals.

Too bad the cast iron block is only has 4-main bearings... May have been
stronger than the 6-bearing cap aluminum block... The 03-04 Cobra SVT
had the 4V iron block motors, 320 HP in the N/A version.

Pretty sure the aluminum blocks are good for some pretty high HP numbers.

The 3V aluminum block is good for 1000hp, and the stock crank is good for 800hp. All you need is a set of forged rods/pistons plus billet oil pump gears to build a very stout motor.

I'm running stock pistons, stock bores and boss rods. 12.5+ psi with long tube headers and comp 127300 cams.

The stock hypereutectic pistons can shatter like glass if there's severe detonation so you're taking a bit of a risk at 12.5psi.

How do you like the cams? Hows the idle and stop and go traffic driveability? How about power, is it flat at low rpms, like around 3000 rpm, or is it good at 3k and builds from there?

Detonation can be a risk but with decent fuel and less aggressive timing it can work. High revs is what kills most of the supercharged 3Vs. I ran on a stock block for years and typically kept the revs below 6000 rpm and I never had an issue at 480 whp. The rods are the weak link and have a limited fatigue life. Every time you rev it high, it takes a little life away. I think the rod load to rpm relationship is the power of 3. So 10% more revs, is 33% more load, or similar to that.

Yeah it surprises me how Brenspeed manage to run forced induction set ups on a stock short block as high 6700rpm on the dyno with 500rwhp. They place a limit of 450rwtq on a stock short block which is fair enough, but pushing it to 6700rpm? Maybe once on the dyno but I can't see the engine surviving a 4th gear pull on the road much beyond 6000rpm.

I did not use head studs with my built motor and ford didn't see a need to use them on the 662hp GT500 either. I have seen lots of rod failures, a couple bearing failures, melted ring lands, but no head bolt or head gasket failures on stock mod motors. Ford uses decent TTY hardware, unlike General Motors.
If you do use head studs, you need to have the block deck plate honed. Not sure if you'll find a machine shop with a deck plate for a mod motor in Hawaii.

The 99/01 was the N/A version and they had aluminum blocks. The 03/04 Mach was rated at 305hp and were also aluminum blocks.

I guess it depends on what you consider high power. I've seen plenty of stock iron blocks making over 800hp. Even a couple into the 4 digits.

Swapping to aluminum is pretty popular for the Terminator guys. Saves 80lbs at least. Local guy just went with a Teksid build. I think he's aiming for 700 on the low end.

I have DOB with trinity TVS Boss 302 rods, diamond 2618 forged pistons, stock crank, 610 rwhp and rev to 6500 +/- all the time 17lbs, ford torque to yield everywhere, probably used the same cam phaser bolts on 3 different cams and the harmonic same balancer bolt on 3 different balancers and its an aluminum block .020 over. Ford makes pretty stout stuff

I was talking about the 04/05 Cobra SVT, not the Mach 1 or 99/01. That 4.6 Aluminum
Modular Engine hasn't changed much at all since inception. Was discontinued in 2014, with
the Ford E series with a whopping 225 HP...

I know you were talking about the 03/04 Cobra which were rated at 390hp. I was letting you know that the 99/01 Cobra had the 320hp rating you mentioned with the aluminum block. Yes, the 99/01 was SVT as well. As were the 96-98.

Ok the 06 motor is not available......someone else got it at auction.... But we found a 2011 E250 3v 4.6 motor on island. Anyone know if that will swap into a 2010 GT?

Are you sure its a 3v? I could be wrong but I thought the e series never got a 3v. Now if youve seen it disregard.
