So a few years ago I was looking for a C3 vette or a 2nd gen Camaro to build as a new project. I figured not a big demand, parts are relatively inexpensive and available and I could tune it with a screwdriver and 1/2" wrench. It was hard to find a decent one (solid chassis & body) for a decent price. This is supposed to be a budget build. Anyways I ended up finding this little gem literally right down the street that is in superb condition. Two owner Palm Springs and Vegas car. Picked it up for $8K because the AC wasn't working. It's a Pontiac but same same underneath for my purposes.

Fast Forward a couple three years as I slowly gathered parts. 6 mos unemployed, couple of jobs, now finally starting to actually build so I thought I would document it for anyone interested. My build plan has one goal, to get kicked off my local track for not having a chute or license.

Though not my original build plan this is where I'm going:
I've got all BMR front tubular arms and Viking coil overs for the front.
BMR Torque arm rear with Watts link and Viking coil overs.
BMR solid frame mounts.
Hotchkis frame connectors.
DSS mini tubs.
2" shortened Ford 9" with Strange nodular center section
Detroit TruTrac 3.73 gears
Strange axles
Hydroboost master cylinder
Wilwood 4-piston Dynalite Pro calipers and rotors for the front
Wilwood 4-piston Dynopro rear calipers and rotors with electronic parking brake
Holeshot custom drag wheels

Still looking for someone to weld up my cage

Planning on a crate motor from TriStar. 540 or 555 Dart M Block, Dart heads, Sniper dual quad EFI on Sniper Sheet Metal intake. 200 port injected nitrous. Should make 650-700 hp on motor and add the nitrous and I should be around the 800-850 hp mark. Will run this through a 700R4 transmission. Don;t have that sourced quite yet. Carbon fiber driveshaft too.

Just a few pics for your viewing pleasure. Having an issue with photobucket losing the last 7 years of images from my account so there is not a whole lot for me to show you at the moment.

Brake kit and assembled front rotors

Front end starting to go together. Had to reuse the stock spindles but had to cut a bunch off and drill and tap some mounting holes to fit the new brakes, but everything seems to be going together pretty well.

I will update this thread as the build progresses. Wish I had a few more pics for you guys but now I'm going to scream as loud as I can by email to photobucket.

Thanks. It will be a slow watch as I only can spend about 4-5 hours a week working on it but I will post up every step of the way so I have it documented.

I love the name. Embrace the ridicule. LOL

I like these cars. A little big in dimension but nicely designed just the same. Look forward to updates.

Nice score indeed...one of my favorite cars I owned as a teen was a 1974 Pontiac Formula 350 (red). Loved that car - enjoy wrench'n away.

Thanks guys. My wife said it's my last RacecaR build so I want it to scare me a little bit.

My Grant quick release steering wheel and my interior came in.

I went with Grant because the adaptor hub was already on the car. Call me lazy.

I was going to get a Kirkey 45 series seat but for those who have ridden in a Kirkey you know they are not the most comfortable. This car will see a couple three thousand miles a year so I went with Corbeau. It's going to take a little extra work to mount it to the cage but I think the comfort level will be improved.

Looks to me like you have a great start on an old Trans Am type track car instead of 1/4 mile. Get that thing out on a road course too!

Nah, I would meed much bigger brakes. Those are only 11" rotors so I can put 15"s on there.
