Hey everyone! I've been trying to figure out why my mustang is going into limp mode while driving. Any help appreciated!
My car has fairly low miles since I ride my moto a lot. I maintain it pretty well I'd say.
Car:
  • 2011 Mustang V6
  • 85,000 miles
  • Cold Air intake and axle-back exhaust.
Symptoms:
  • Jerky Acceleration at a specific gas pedal position (if I accelerate harder the jerking goes away)
  • Car goes into limp mode. (Wrench light appears). I've noticed more chance of limp mode when cold, and less when warmed up. But still a chance. It even went into limp mode while going 80 on a highway. Had to pull over and restart the car.
  • No check engine light as of right now (after I cleaned the MAF sensor)

So far the fixes I've tried:
  • Replaced Purge Valve (P0456 code, gone after replacement)
  • Cleaned MAF sensor.
  • Cleaned AIR intake.
  • Cleaned Throttle Body

My research has led me to believe that the problem could be:
  • Bad throttle body? (I cleaned it, but perhaps the whole thing is broken)
  • Bad fuel filter
.
So, has anyone had similar issues? And what could be a reason for this malfunction? Ford Dealership says they can't find the problem since there's no engine light.
I'll attach a link to a video that I filmed of the car jerking while accelerating. (Holding the pedal steady)

When’s the last time you cleaned the intake filter? Not the tube but the filter itself. If it’s dirty then it isn’t drawing enough air.

Have you tried Seafoam or the like cleaners? Could be some buildup.

When I had my Civic I had a similar issue where it wouldn’t accelerate at all but would go away. Had a misfire in one of the cylinders which in turn the result of a bad injector. Replaced injector and was fine.

It sounds to me like a problem with the throttle body; either the TPS or the throttle body actuator.

Take the cold air intake off and re-install the factory one. I had a similar issue with my 2011 V6 and it turns out it was the airaid plastic tube leaking air after the MAF sensor. Not as bad as yours and mostly when it was cold. I’m just using the factory air box now, the car actually runs better with that than the CAI

I've had the aftermarket CAI for like 4 years now, so I really don't think it is causing the issue. But I'll check on that! :)

Update! The car finally threw a check engine light wohoo! Never been so happy. Code: P2111, Throttle Body Actuator. Already ordered a new Throttle Body and will update you if the problem is fixed!

Update! Replaced the throttle body with an OEM Ford part from eBay ($80), did ECU reset and the problem is gone! Thanks everyone, hope this helps whoever has the same issue.
