Thinking way ahead here...looking at Exploder GT40 intakes....

Is there any difference between intakes with/without EGR provisions? Obviously there are the EGR holes/runners/whatever...but does it matter if you run one or the other? My car still has the EGR installed, but I have the plate/plug-in module to remove it. I guess my question is does it matter which one I pick up or does it "force your hand" to run the configuration of the intake you get? For example, can you run a no-EGR configuration with a intake that has the EGR plumbing? For some reason I had it in my head that I needed a non-EGR intake, but they are less common used than EGR versions. I'm not opposed to either configuration, but I don't want to get stuck with something I can't use should I come across a good deal.

EGR, at part throttle, helps prevent detonation and clean up emissions a little bit. At WOT, the EGR is closed so no effect. Since the SN95 is external EGR, I'd get the non-EGR Exploder intake as they are easier to find and keep the EGR functional.

Internal EGR was only made for about two years versus about four years for the non- EGR setup.

Since you’re deleting it anyway I don’t think it matters.

Honestly I haven't totally made up my mind on the delete - I've read good and bad both ways. It seems some cars run into issues when deleting it - detonation, CEL (even with the plug), etc etc. And, I'm a pretty good ways out from major engine mods. I'd like to keep my eyes open for a good deal if I run across one, though.

It seems that a H/C/I combo with exhaust (which is already done) nets about 300whp from my reading. That should be more than enough to make things "interesting" in a 3200# car. I still need to replace ball joints and probably freshen up the rear end at some point and it probably wouldn't hurt to change trans fluid.

I'm going to take this weekend off from working on the car I think. If I do anything, I'm going to reroute some of the speaker wires. The "pro" that installed the previous system ran everything down the driver side. I need to get the speaker wires on the other side - that could be the source of some of my noise. I don't feel like I want to tear into the "big 3" upgrade this weekend. My body needs a break lol.

I would keep the egr valve just because it isn’t hurting anything. And not that you’re interested in gas mileage, but it does help.

Lol it's really hard to verify my current gas mileage - the speedo only works about 1/2 the time. I need to get that gear changed out.

EDIT: I think I'm getting around 17 FWIW.

If that's mostly around town, leaning on it often.... that's pretty respectable. On the highway you might get around 25-28 at a steady 70ish mph with stock gears.

What rear gear is in your car joe_momma?

They're either 3.73 or 3.90, I'm not sure. I do a mix of town/highway miles.

I bet it has a bad stepper motor, does cruise work?

Cruise does work. It's off and on and bounces quite a bit. It seems to fail when I get off the throttle, and come back on under load. I've got a replacement gear and clip, just haven't put them in yet. I'm planning to replace the bulbs in the cluster at some point (soon hopefully) as it's barely visible even on full brightness. If the gear doesn't cure it, I'll see about replacing the stepper motor while I'm in there.

EDIT: are the stepper motors the same as the S197? Not seeing any stepper motors for SN95s.

Could be the gear I guess, have you run any codes to eliminate the vss sensor?

I haven't ran any codes on it. I was looking at getting one of those OBD-1 scanners from Amazon, they aren't terribly expensive.

Got a new 5 channel amp ordered and wiring kit, it should be here this week. I'll get that in and run a new power wire/ground for it, along with re-routing the speaker/RCA cables to the opposite side. If I get froggy, I'll tackle the big 3 kit as well. Just depends on how my back is feeling. I can't handle another 8 hour day in the garage (or at least my back can't).

I did do the fog light mod on Saturday. Now I can run the fogs with just the parking lights (prior to the mod the fogs would only come on with the headlights). There are two wires that you have to change in the wiring harness under the center console. Literally a 15 minute job unless you bork one of the pins and can't get it all the way back in the harness like I did. It probably took me about 30 minutes, start to finish after wrestling with the pins in the harness.

At some point I want to look at new headlights and fogs, the light output is pretty dismal. I did buff the headlight lenses, but that doesn't appear to have helped much. I'd like to keep it stock looking, so I might go with Cobra headlights. I'm not sure what is available as far as replacement fogs, I haven't looked really.

Also on the to-do list is removing the old, bubbling, purple-turning window tint. I had planned to just have the shop remove it when I take it in to have it redone, but from my reading, it sounds like that gets expensive quick. I haven't checked with my guy, but I think it's something I can handle. I may actually have Jr do it - he worked at a tint shop for several months last year. It would be an opportunity for him to earn some cash and spend some time with him since he's moved out. Plus, I'm not sure how much patience I have for removing old tint.

I hate tint. I pealed that garbage of my '93 GT but still have to remove the adhesive. I've seriously considered just breaking the rear window and replacing it. It'd be less work and I'd have A LOT less anger about the process.

Tint is a must-have for me on all my vehicles, but I can't stand a bad tint job. I'm sure this was a fine job 26 years ago, but time has not been kind to this installation :)

Heat gun and a spray bottle of ispropyl and water is your friend. Razor blade for removing the glue after a good spray with isopropyl.

I can't stand the fishbowl look either.
