Front wheel size question

I have an 06 mustang gt running 15" x 4" front wheels, I have 15"s on the rear also. I am starting to see 17" x 4" front wheels on several S197's with 15" for the rear. Is there an advantage to the 17"s on the front for drag racing?

How do u drag race folks manage to slow down, when using 3.5" and 4" wide front tires..and oem 2 piston calipers. What pads do u use on the front brakes ? Or is the rear brakes doing all the stopping?

Will a 15" diam front wheel even clear the oem 12.4" rotor ?

Stock brakes on my 12 work fine up to 128 mph for me. I am swapping to DBA rotors and pads when its time to change them out. The 05-09 brakes are smaller and you can fit a 15 inch front wheel with no modifications, several people have swapped to 05-09 rotors on a 11-14 to be able to run a 15 inch wheel.

So I am thinking of upgrading the rear sway bar on my 2014 Bass Mustang with a Boss rear sway bar. Just wondered how this was done so I go to youtube. Only thing available on youtube was for installing a rear sway bar relocation kit to so that 15 inch wheels and drag slicks can be installed.

no advantages going to 17" unless you need ground clearance if so, I would just get a taller tire, which is what I am going to do on when i replace the fronts.

still just using cross drilled/slot rotors trapping 156+ car stops, but it does take me until the 3rd return exit. Getting ready to upgrade brakes now, parts are here.

Stock brakes front and rear on my 2010 GT and I don’t have the slightest problem stoping on slicks and skinnies. From 126 I just ease off the gas and progressively apply the brakes.

I had no troubles from 128mph with my fox body and the pathetic 11" single piston fronts and rear drums. The bias ply sway at the top end was far scarier than the braking portion of the run.

Yes I already have it. It's just several mods I want to make. The Big Brake kit is already done and works great after the second bleed. I intend to install a Track Apps Cluster later. The Boss Bar is waiting until the weather gets better.

@LarryJM I installed a boss rear sway bar and upgraded the bushings to poly. I didnt have any hang ups really on my 2005 gt. pretty sraight forward.

The issue seems to be using 15 inch wheels with this sway bar. They sell a rear sway bar relocation kit in order to use 15 inch wheels. So if your 2005 Mustang is using wheels bigger then 15 inchs, your good to go or so it seems.

10” wide 15” wheels with a 7 1/4” backspace will contact the sway bar mount on the rear end of an 05 to 14 GT. It does not matter what sway bar is used because it is the mounting bracket that interferes with the wheel. Cutting about an inch off the mount and using a relocation bracket allows the wide 15” wheels to be used with a stock style sway bar. Larger diameter wheels clear the mount without modification.
