Agreed, though I sort of believe this era was kicked off with the Hemi in the aughts. Chrysler was essentially saying

I yam what I yam and that's all what I yam

and too bad if you don't like it.

This era was kicked off in 2005 when the S197 Mustang was revealed. Camaro was out of production. FCA had the Magnum/300C/Charger triplets with 5.7 Hemi's, but they were big sedans/wagons. Sure they had 345ish hp but they were big heavy cars. Ford sold so many Mustangs, GM brought the Camaro out of retirement and FCA brought out the Challenger to get a piece of the action. And from there it's gotten silly in the most glorious way.

Actually, you can trace this back to the (then new) Powerful, revvy, fuel-injected 5.0 liter Ford put in the Facelifted Fox Mustang for 1986.

That brought us out of a 15-year Dark Age of sub-140hp V8s and “Sticker Pack Performance” cars.

It led to V10 Vipers, GM LS-series engines (a stonkin’ Great motor, even if you’re not a fan of the company!), the “New Hemi” in Development in the late ‘90s, and Ford’s continual refinement of their Modular engines from introduction in the early ‘90s to the Coyotes today.

Who here wants to go back to 1979?

The Foxbody saved muscle cars for sure, but the dynamite was lit in 2005 and went off about 2 years later with the intro of the GT500.

Also, calling the OG 5.0 "revy" is almost laughable in light of the 5.0 DOHC. But in the day it was a force to reckoned with.

I remember being 9 years old in 1986 and hearing everyone grumbling that hod-rodding was done with the proliferation of fuel injection.
That's why despite all the green talk today, I'm not worried.

No movement on this thread since December. Has anyone actually done this swap? Is there a parts list floating around? I haven’t come across anything yet. Will K members need to be changed? What about front suspension Trans cross members? I would think there is more to this one than just the coyote swap

I'm not a fan of FI and it excites me to see big 'all motor' horsepower.
FI? Fuel injection? You mean what every motor is still using, including any ohv big motors?

Edit: Forced induction, damn pronunciations. :newbie:

YouTuber Hartwick Performance recorded a series of videos of his Godzilla swap into an S197. Some fabrication was necessary and he goes into detail about what was required. His engine runs but he still has some kinks to iron out. You could subscribe to his channel and follow his progress.

Another update:

Just no replacement for displacement when TQ is the requirement.....that TQ curve of the Godzilla 7.3L had me salivating......
Wonder if he had the 7.3L's VCT hooked up & operational.....TQ curve looked to me like the VCT was disabled\locked out so assuming camshaft was at 0* cam timing wise (from the cam phaser perspective) across the graph.

How about a truck manifold on a Gen 1? I bet it would be the same.

An 18+ manifold is better. The truck manifold wouldn’t be worth it since you lose top end.

If I read this right it's 350/400 RWH for the 5.0 and 425/375 RWH for the 7.3. I bet that truck manifold on the 5.0 would be 400/375 RWH or there abouts with a lot less trouble. Even the Track Cal says you can pick up 60foot lbs of torque at 1500 rpm. If that's the case, it might be 410/410 lopey idle and all.

I'm afraid you've read it wrong. ;) The dyno results were:

Coyote 5.0: 394rwhp @ 7000rpm, 344rwtq @ 4700rpm
Godzilla 7.3: 396rwhp @ 4900rpm, 454rwtq @ 4200rpm

It would appear that the Coyote already has a Gen 3 intake manifold while the Godzilla is essentially bone stock. The 110lbft higher torque of the Godzilla supports the statement that there's no replacement for displacement. In stock form the Godzilla leaves plenty of power under the table. With ported heads, performance camshaft, aftermarket intake manifold, and LT headers, the Godzilla should make at least 550rwhp and 500rwtq. Still not enough? Just slap on some boost!

I thought the Godzilla was 375/rwh and 425 torque. No matter, both would be close. Track Cal says they can really bring up the torque like 60 lbs worth at 1500 RPM. Hey, it seems a lot of trouble to me to turn your Mustang GT into a 1968 GTX.

How does a godzilla fit in a mustang? What transmissions will work? For older mustang's what other parts would need fo be updated/replaced?
