Looking for knowledge, Just bought the car, it idles 900-1000, never lower, and between shifts itll kind of hang there for a second before the rpm drops, I cant find an answer, I cleaned the MAF and Throttle body, any other tips?

Thank you

May be a vacuum leak... or tune issue?

I forgot to add, engine looks stock other than a cold air intake. No clue if its had a tune or not. No check engine light.

Which intake? There are some that are ‘no tune required’ and some that definitely are. No handheld tuner with the car?

Not positive, could it be a bbk?
No tuner with the car, might buy a SCT x4 though so I can adjust the thing.

I think it must have a tune, because that high an idle should set a check engine light eventually.
A vacuum leak can cause a high idle, but, it also should trip the CEL for 'unable to control idle' or something to that effect.

Ok, thanks, Ill have to order the SCT tuner then. But would a tuner make it hang between shifts? Makes it hard to be smooth on shifting

Whatever it is, its a heavy hunk of metal!
The black is the “Racer” edition from C&L and is plastic. The first one they had for the 05’s was aluminum. That kinda looks like the aluminum one I had and is painted black. The OP can confirm. If it is a C&L.

Tunes can have all kinds of wierd results with this "fly by wire" throttle. An x4 should let you change idle speed but not the reg hang. But if you get an x4 with custom tunes, you will not be able to modify idle speed of you current tune. Its modiify stock tune OR custom tune, not both.

Ok, gotcha, good to know, but the custom tune could also have the idle set in it, right?

If you have a vacuum leak think of it as uncontrollable air coming into the engine... So the RPM's can hang high, at idle, and in between shifts.

An intake tube that requires a tune but doesn't have one can also cause all kinds of idle and stumble issues.

A tune that isn't dialed in for the aftermarket parts can also cause issues.

Most of those would likely turn on a check engine light, but it is also possible they won't... The computer is pretty flexible in the amount of adjustment it can make so that you can drive from sea level to the top of Pikes Peak and run the a/c the whole way.

Ok, I took a can of starting fluid and hosed down the engine at every gasket and connection of everything, and didnt notice any increase in rpm.. Or is there a better method? So far cant find anything wrong.

Ok, Ill have to try that next.. Starting to regret buying this thing. Hope I can find the problem. Or someone will chime in that has fixed this.

From that engine bay picture you posted it looks like a clean car, too early for regret! I don’t suppose you have the factory intake to try? If you unplug the MAF with it running what happens? Also, probably not helpful on yours but my intake has a port on the bottom side, I don’t suppose yours does that’s maybe open to atmosphere?

I’m sure others will chime in, I don’t think I’ve seen a problem on here go unsolved!

Appreciate it, It didnt come with any factory parts, so Im trying to find someone with a factory intake setup to try to see if this CAI kit is the issue. I can take the filter off and on with no engine rpm change, if I blow on the MAF I can make the car change rpm.. haha. Ill try unplugging it after work. Thanks a bunch!
