Hawks are so cool. We had a pair that lived in our neighborhood before we moved. You'd catch them perched atop a tree or telephone pole just surveying the area. Really cool to see.

Hawks are neat, but I don't want them around my yard. They keep the small songbirds away. I like my songbirds. That's why I feed them.

Traditionally, a good friend of mine and I travel to the Airforce Museum in Dayton Ohio every Black Friday.
We've been making that trip going on 30 years.
I use some of the time as opportunity to be creative.

I normally leave hawks alone, but I have a Red-shouldered Hawk that is a harassing my Indian Hens (Pileated Woodpecker) trying to get the juvenile birds. If I get a clean shot he’s gone, because Indian Hens are much more rare than hawks!

Oh, I love pileated woodpeckers and they are so hard to find for a picture. Let me see if I can find a picture of one I took in the past. For now here is a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2.jpg

Nice picture!
Yes they are pretty wary. I believe I have three nesting pairs on my property. I have lots of dead white oak trees standing, they seem to prefer those. It sounds like a machine gun when they start pecking on a hollow limb!
Here is the best I got with my phone so far…
