Steeda Underdrive Pulleys - What does the kit include?

I've looked and can't find anywhere what it is exactly that I would be getting. From reading here and elsewhere it seems I would get a pulley for the water pump and for the alternator. 2 pulleys. Steeda's website shows the UDP kit and then also below that it shows related products which is the Underdrive Crank Harmonic Balancer which coincidently looks like one of the pulleys in the UDP kit.

So, what do I get with the Steeda UDP kit?

Do I need the Crank Harmonic Balancer also?

Been so long it’s hard to remember.. should be a crank pulley and a water pump pulley, alternator doesn’t change. Remember to seal the key with RTV on the crank when you replace it and then there’s a stud on the water pump you replace with a bolt if I recall correctly so it clears the larger pulley.

For 05-10 S197 4.6L engines you will get 1 UDP water pump pulley, 1 UDP HB & 1 HB install bolt (this is used to get HB started onto crankshaft snout then you'll pull it & use the reg HB bolt (or a new HB bolt) w\ it's washer to finish HB install) & 1 alternator bolt to replace the 1 studded bolt that prevents the UDP water pump pulley from installing\rotating. No UDP alternator pulley is included\needed in this Steeda setup for 05-10 S197 4.6L engines.

I have this very Steeda UDP setup installed on my '09 GT.

The Steeda UDP setup that has the alternator pulley in addition to the other 2 is for '96-'04 4.6L engines (SN95\New Edge)

Here are my thoughts:
I installed Steeda underdrive pulleys on my 08 Mustang GT a month ago, and I'm happy with them. They free up a few horsepower and make your accessories last a little longer.
Seat of the pants is a notoriously inaccurate measure of power driven by confirmation bias. Nevertheless, my car does seem a little stronger. I was expecting a small improvement in fuel economy, and it's possibly in the 1/10 mpg range. The engine runs smoothly.
It's winter in Michigan, but the temperature has never moved above the normal operating range. The generator is fully charging the battery. The power steering feels the same. If you're concerned about cooling, perhaps you should hold on to your old water pump pulley. If you have a problem, you could reinstall that pulley and run a shorter serpentine belt. The new water pump pulley is quite large. There have been no leaks and no problems so far.
Much easier to install from above the car than below it. If you move the air intake tube and the coolant overflow, there's adequate room to work.
With a manual transmission, leave your car in 5th gear with the emergency brake applied and chock your wheels. In lower gears, the torque necessary to remove the balancer bolt was moving the whole car. I used a 15" breaker bar with a cheater pipe to loosen the bolt.
The OEM Tools 7 ton puller from Autozone absolutely will not work - it's way too long to fit between the balancer and the radiator/fan. A Ford dealer mechanic let me borrow his Blue-Point®/Snap-On YA6490A, and the balancer was much easier to remove.
The directions said to apply "a dab" of high temperature silicone to the keyway on the balancer. There was a lot of silicone on the key and the old balancer, so I scraped and brushed it off as best I could and applied a healthy dose of silicone to the new keyway. I don't think it's there to keep oil in the engine. The crankshaft front oil seal is there to keep oil from leaking out. I speculate the silicone is there to keep water and dust from migrating past the balancer in toward the engine. Installing the balancer definitely required a cheater pipe for the last step.

Belt tension wasn't enough to hold the water pump pulley in place while loosening and torquing the bolts. A drift punch through the pulley hole around 8:00 kept the pulley from turning. You might also try rotating the tensioner counter-clockwise to increase belt tension.
You have to remove the stud at 4:00 as you look at the generator. The snout has a 5mm hex on it, and it's easy to remove and replace with the bolt in the kit.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had mine for years through Texas summers and I’ve never had a cooling problem.

Just a thought. Adding an electric H2O pump will just magnify the gains from the UDPs.

Gain from UDPs alone = 9rwhp
Gain from EWP alone = 7rwhp
Gain from UDPs & EWP combined = 12rwhp

The reason why you only gain a further 3rwhp from the EWP instead of 7rwhp if you already have UDPs is because the mechanical water pump you replaced was underdriven by 25%. The parasitic HP loss from the water pump increases with rpm squared.

I have a Whipple and don't run udp's but I run an electric pump on every performance car I have built or owned. Now I have gone through a couple but not from pump failure but bearings on the dummy pulley for the belt. Many pluses to running an electric pump with very little downside. Couldn't tell you how much power is saved from mechanically pumping the water or if she revs any quicker but logic dictates there has to be some gains.

If you blow the accessory belt off the engine for whatever reason the electric water pump will get you home without overheating.

Good information.

Seems like there would be additional benefit of keeping your engine cooler when you're not moving. I mostly just autocross my car and we spend a lot of time idling while waiting to run.

And ceramic coated LT's and hi-flow catted H will increase hp/tq a bunch....albeit expensive. That's one mod I did, that actually put it altogether. Blatantly obvious too. Now it pulls like a mo-fo.

Yep. And another plus if you go to the track is that you can run the pump and the hi-speed fan while the engine is off in the pits. You can get the motor cooled back down in about 15-20 minutes as opposed to an hour with ice bags and fans. I can get four runs in for everyone elses one.

Nice looking setup. I did a similar thing a little lower. With the key off I flip one switch and it turns on the intercooler pump, engine coolant pump and the high speed fan.
