Engine masters debunked the need for a crossover. No crossover, two individual pipes made the most power, everywhere.

GT500 mufflers are an excellent option -- no raspiness, no drone -- just a deep, mellow tone on startup and on acceleration. I've had them on my 2014 GT/CS for eight years, with no other exhaust modifications. I've gotten many compliments, from a wide range of car guys.

So apparently that is what I have already on mine. It’s loud though.

Running a V8 engine without an exhaust crossover isn't a good idea. A crossplane crank V8 has uneven firing intervals on each bank so while running without a crossover will produce more old school rumble, it'll impair performance 'cause exhaust gas pulses will become "stacked up" inside each down pipe instead of being scavenged efficiently.
A well designed X-pipe provides the best scavenging since it'll provide an easy route for exhaust gases from each downpipe to either continue flowing on the same side or cross over to the other side.
If you don't want the rasp, just run chambered mufflers instead of straight-through units. It's also a good idea to retain the cats both for emissions purposes and to dampen the sound. Ditching the cats for the sake of gaining 5-6hp isn't worth it unless your car is never driven on public roads.
This is such bullshit! Stacked up pulses are from the wrong size pipe and/or a very poorly designed “restrictive” layout. No crossover is required to make power. Never has been. Evan with cats, two separate banks breath better than a merged system when it is sized correctly.

Alright guys, let’s keep it amicable! No pissing contests in my thread, please. Feel free to state your opinion but let’s keep it at that ok.

A cross over provides for an alternative path for the exhaust. That alone, will reduce back pressure

It depends on the engine configuration and firing order.
Even firing V6s & V10s, flat-plane crankshaft V8s, and all V12s have even firing intervals not only between all cylinders but also between the cylinders on each individual bank. Therefore they effectively behave like two inline engines stuck side to side, and can deliver optimal performance by running a dual exhaust system without a crossover pipe.
Cross-plane crankshaft V8s differ in that although they have even 90 degree firing intervals between all cylinders, they have an odd firing interval (90-180-270-180 degrees) between cylinders on each individual bank. This is the reasoning behind my previous post. I've seen dyno tests showing that an H or X crossover does add a little more power, and the X adds more over a broader rpm range, but the differences are too small to be of any statistical significance and the real differences between them are in the sound they produce.
I do agree with your last statement that pipe sizing is important.

Here we are in agreement. I have seen tests showing both gain and no gain with H and X pipes. Possibly the X being more useful. But the difference is so small that it falls within the margin of error as to whether or not a crossover makes more power. Another similar issue is the use of “tuned length” headers, not just long vs short to maximize performance. In the overall scheme of things the potential power gain is so small it’s not worth the trouble. Anyway, the real difference between crossover and no crossover is one sounds like a hot rod and the other sounds like a sports car.

Whew! Y’all giving me a headache, lol.

Actually great discussion. However, we’ve all hashed over all of this information in the past.

I will play with this coyote just like I did my 3v and find the sound I like best. The first thing I did when I got my 05 was add a set of Flowmaster axle backs and a x-pipe while retaining the stock cats. It was terrible, but I used some of those components and added in some others and finally got it just like I like it.
I was somewhat complaining about the 5.0 being so loud until I cranked both of them the other day and realized my 3v is actually louder than the 5.0.
I may just have to drive it and get used to it. I really haven’t gotten to drive it much.

Ford changed the firing order when they designed the Coyote for 2011 to the same used on the old Flat head V-8's back in the early days. Thus the main reason for the tone change aside from revving way higher than your average push rod engine or mod setup through 3V.

This explains why they sound like a dang tractor at low rpm.

Never really paid much attention to the amount of difference between the OG S197 and the refresh. Only minor suspension differences, but the outer skin and interiors are way different.

Nice looking stuff!

This picture shows perfectly the main reason why I chose to go the 05-09 MY of S197 vs the later...........

Them clean distinct OG body lines just does it for me............

Thank you sir! It’s my favorite as well. The paint is a little rough on the hood of the 05. Started chipping really bad along the front edge for some reason.

The 14 needs some body work on the bumper cover, RF fender, etc. but I picked it up fairly cheap. Oh and the hood is crap.

Those look like '13-'14 GT500 mufflers, which are louder than the '11-'12 ones I think he was talking about.
I have the '11-'12 ones on my '13 as well and after almost 10 years I still love them.

Could be. Next time I get it in on the lift I’ll look at parts # to see what I have. Still learning what the car is and has a far as options and mods. I just realized it has the track pack option.

I feel the exact opposite, lol. I love the look and lines of the 11-12 cars. Couldn't pay me to own a 05-09. But that's what makes this hobby great!

Well as you can see, I love both groups of s197 Mustangs. Actually I love all things Mustang! At this time I own a 1st Gen (69 FB), a 4th Gen SN95(98 Vert), 2 - 5th Gen S197s (05 GT and 14 GT). All of these are V8 standard transmission cars!

The red car in front of the line is my G-daughter’s 12 3.7 AT.

Yes, they are the 2011-2012 mufflers, sorry for not clarifying. They were included in the Ford Racing power pack that included the ProCal tune:
