ironically, that motor later shortly failed, iirc.
As fun as dropping $45k sounds (and would love to know where to find said $45k), I won't be doing that any time soon. Either way I have to fix this car to sell it or keep racing it, so the thread's chase for information is valid regardless of...
there's a shocking lack of information out there about the coyote valve train and its requirements to work reliably in a road course environment. So much so to the point where people either are willing to guess and try random parts (usually at their own peril with mixed results), or stick with...
F150, mustang, whatever. looking for a couple heads to do mockup on. Get that junk out of your garage :)
Located in Phoenix, I will pay reasonable shipping costs, thanks!
I hear ya. I thought about buying them and pressing out the integral studs but ultimately I'll just find the right set for me (I run extended studs on the race car and will be fitting some 10.5" bbs ford wheels and 18x11" et52 wheels up front and both need in the neighborhood of 20mm

spambot aside, this is resolved. Oil pump had scored faces, despite there not being notable material in the oil filter. Put a stock pump in and the noise is eliminated. Working out a replacement pump with the aftermarket supplier.
Strange for a new motor to have an issue like this, as typically...
Put it in the air today and listened from below while someone revved it. Two noises both from the front and seem related to the timing chain. There's definitely some more rapid clacking noise when revving down suggesting the timing chain has excessive slack and particularly on the passenger...
No heater core on this car, hvac and heat removed. Could be water related though it's happening with the belt off. Could there be air? Sure. Headgasket is also possble I guess
Went over it again with a screwdriver top and bottom but can't tell at idle. Once it's warm it really makes noise though. Drove it around and it was fine though my water leak is picking up so a project to track that down.
The pan plug did have some metal on it but what i would consider mostly...
I've listened to dozens of timing noise videos and nothing really seems to sound the same outside a F150 video that had a similar whine/moan to it though very audible at idle (3.5L).
I've heard oil pump gears be mentioned, phasers, etc. I'll pull the oil pan plug tonight and look for excessive...
