In the past I've heard that using full face helmets in street cars with airbags may cause neck injuries. However, there have been a few crashes at NJMP in the last 2 years in street cars where the airbags deployed and the driver was wearing a full face helmet. One of them was a Porsche going straight into a wall/barrier last spring. There were no neck injuries in any of the crashes. So, I don't see a disadvantage of going with full faced helmet. Also, you can find full faced helmets with wider openings that allow for more peripheral vision and a wider field of view.

ive been thinking the open face may help with cooling over the full face helmet, and at the price point is about $100 cheaper on all aspects...

Bell Sport, SA rated. Not the most glamorous helmet, but it's light and gets the job done.

Full face is best unless you like the taste of steering wheel

X3. Full face for sure.

I like my GForce just fine, basic and breathes well with the little plastic breath guard/nose ridge installed. White gets least as hot...

RIP - You will be missed

My understanding is that NJMP requires a full face helmet - under a NJ law with apparent State police enforcement, no less.

http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1410288 . . . and I'm linking that because it's the only link for this stuff that work lets me get to said:
§ 13:62-3.6 Helmets and eye protection
(a) All drivers shall wear a properly secured, full face helmet, with face shield, which meets or exceeds Snell Memorial Foundation Testing Standards M or SA, incorporated by reference herein, as may be amended and supplemented, which has not reached the expiration date established by the Snell Memorial Foundation at the time of the event. The standards are available from the Snell Memorial Foundation, 3628 Madison Avenue, Suite 11, North Highlands, CA 95660.
A Nomex, or similar fire-resistant head sock is recommended to be worn in conjunction with the use of the full face helmet with shield. The use of open face helmets and goggles shall be
prohibited.
(b) "M" (Motorcycle) Snell rated helmets may be used in all motorcycle events and automobile events where fire ratings are not required.
(c) "SA" (Auto Special Application) Snell fire-rated helmets shall be used in all other applications.
(d) Helmets shall not be required under certain instructional and guided tour events where the maximum speed on the track shall not exceed 55 miles per hour.
(e) All helmets used by riders on motorcycles and open air race cars shall be full-faced and shall be worn with the visor in the closed position while on the track, the above rating and
standards not withstanding.

(f) (Reserved)
It isn't entirely clear whether in a closed car that you'd need the shield in place and closed.

There are a number of full-face helmets with larger eyeports. SafeRacer apparently offers a discount to SCCA members, if that helps.

I'm facing the same issue, with an April 7 American Street Car Series event at NJMP getting close.

Actually NJMP has an exemption form the NJ State Police. If the car has a driver's side airbag, full face helmets are not required.

I prefer full-face helmets. They seem more "balanced" to me. The open face ones feel like they're pulling my head backwards or something.

Full face for sure. I found that Bell had a few that were marked down with the new designs coming out for SA15. Check with your local run groups to see if their regulations are planning on changing. My super solo run group is going by the racing regulations for PCA, and they do not allow helmets to lapse the five year span. So if you want to run Super Solo you end up with a new helmet every five years. As soon as I get my coupe running, I will have to get a new lid. Looking for something with forced air this time around.

If you can get over to OG Racing in Sterling, VA, they have lots of helmets in stock and it's always better to try them on. Different models fit differently, even from the same manufacturer. I just got a bell sport 2010 there last week- it fit my head very nicely, while the more expensive M4 (?) was a bit less comfortable.

I have a full CF full face helmet, It is so light that when I got it in the mail I thought the box was empty lol. I scored it on ebay for $120, it came with a bag, smoked and clear visors, and extra padding. CF FTW!!
