Mine broke at about 40K. I just replaced my upper seat back on the driver's side because the bolster broke, exposing the seat frame to my back...real nice...thanks Ford!

So I think it's the same story here for all of us. I've taken some pics to show what is actually broken. The steel spring actually snapped thus rendering the lumbar assembly inoperable. This spring maintains tension as the motor pulls the cable, which causes the plastic lumbar girdle to contract. Without this, the girdle cannot contract.

Unfortunately, Ford does not just sell a replacement for the spring, which looks simple enough to pop off and replace. The entire assembly through Ford is $538.

Here's a close up...

And here's where it's situated in relation to the rest of the lumbar assembly...

I'm hoping to find one of these out there somewhere, because I really like having some lumbar support, and I'm not going to weld anything permanent to the seat because I enjoy having the option to adjust it if desired.

Mine broke 1 week after I bought the car. A click click sound and then nothing.
I went to my (ex) garage and I had to replace a part behind the side adjustable button on the side of the driver seat. It cost me $100 part and labor.
But frankly, anyone can fix it, you just have to take apart the side of the seat (plastic part) and then you just have to change the switch. pretty easy and not expansive.
Now, maybe, your issue is from another part but in my case, that was it ;)

Might as well... mine died today - due to no fault of my own - at 27k miles.

Mine was always fully ?extended? so I really notice it now that it's gone.

Mine popped a few weeks ago when launching my car on DRs. Doesn't click, sounds like the motor spins freely but nothing happens.

Another weird seat related question, does anyone else have 'bulges' on the sides of their seats? I do on mine and its right where the airbags go, I've always been worried they were installed upside down or some shit and are going to ejector seat me if they ever deploy.

If it clicks, it is probably the stripped plastic gear.

Mine gave out long ago and the $500 assembly got replaced under warranty. Still good on the second one...I just try to never adjust it!

I wish mine was still under warranty! I hate it when manufacturers purposely make something cheaply - plastic gears; really?! And I never adjusted mine - all it had to do was keep it's place.

I like 07silvergt's solution - might try that.
