Drivetrain Overhaul!

So got my 6060 back today and time to start the overhaul. The trans got a new input and output shaft so now I have the larger weighted gt500 style tail shaft. Replaced the bad synchro and upgraded to carbon fiber rings and bronze fork pads.

Waiting to go on first. New pilot bearing and slave ,Mcleod steel flywheel with arp bolts and a rxt. MGW 6060 gen2 shifter and then the trans. Going to be a fun weekend lol

After thats all broke in I'm doing 4.10s, install kit and true trac to finish up the overhaul.

I also upgraded my trans mount. I will post some details of that as well.

So for the trans mount I got a diy poly kit. I went with 80a which puts it right in the middle for hardness, the durometer is listed for street/strip use.


First I cleaned and taped up the oem mount, you can see all the holes and the oem rubber is very weak and flimsy.

Next you mix the base and activator well and then you have about 20 minutes to pour.

I had to grab some sand which I should have done in the first place as if shores up any small leaks through the tape. I used clear duct tape so I could see what was going on.

As the bubbles come out and it fills just add some more poly, I did this twice after 10mins each time and then the poly was too solid to pour. After about 2 hours it was hard enough that I could remove the tape and clean it up. Says to wait a full day for it too fully harden. then bolted it back to the trans mount it turned out really well and is a lot better should match the poly motor mounts well.

Local transmission shop around the corner from my house I always see a mustang parked out front so went in to see if they could work on it and lucked out, saved me the hassle of shipping and cost!

What did the rebuild run you? I have a beefed up and rebuilt T5 in my 85GT. That was about $800, but it will put up with the abuse now.

Was originally quoted $750 for parts and labor, ended up being just under $1k getting the new input and tail shafts as well. Not bad.

I've always done wheel bearing grease. I assume this works similar to that? Haha.

As a hydraulic ram. You force the bread in the opening until it fills up, then force more in. It's gotta find a way out and it pushes the bearing out.

Yup. That's why I laugh every time. It's so stupid sounding but works. Just find a bolt the diameter of the bearing so bread can't escape out around it

Bingo, really easy and no mess of grease to clean up. I used a mallet to hammer the socket and extension it and compress the bread. Then just pry the bread out with a screwdriver when your done. You can use play-do too lol
