Anyone on this board run a 3V all motor automatic trans drag setup ?

Hey, click on my username and then click on statistics and I made a photo album that has a picture of the throttle pedal adjuster I made.

Couldn't figure out how to just paste it right in here. Too large.

You know, I had been thinking about going FI next year, but you have me pretty excited about seeing what this current combo I have can run. I think in the fall, when it's cool, and if the DA hits 4K, it could run in the 8.30s, and then next year plop in a 4K stall converter, and try to dip into the VERY high 7s, like 7.99. That would be a blast.

That's pretty neat Scott !

I might have to try that. Thanks for the pic

A couple of things I would have done different on it, and might still change. Where the aluminum piece is horizontal and on the stud, I should have drilled and tapped the hole in the alum piece and then threaded it onto the stud and still had the nut below and above it to set it. I just drilled the hole out, and it is hard to get it to stay in the right position even with a nut on both sides of it. You could also build some bracketry off of the 2 of the four studs that the whole throttle mechanism attaches to.

The simplest thing to do to try it out is just take a washer and tape it to the top of the throttle arm and just under the lip of the bracket it goes into. This achieves the same purpose, but you can't adjust at as accurately as you can with the adj screw like how I did it.

I just got mine back together with the new converter. As soon as I get my front runners in I'll update on what I run. It's very noticeably faster on the street, can't wait to see some actual numbers!

What converter and stall did you go with? Gears?

TCI street fighter(budget), 3000 stall, 410 gears, 27" Hoosier quick time pros.

I am running the same converter and gears, only difference is 28" drag radials. Try to get the DA for your runs if you can, too.

Alan, there's a guy on another forum that's running an '06 gt w/auto and 4.56's, but it's a TH350 with 4000 stall...

not sure if that helps at all :)

That is me. I actually went to a TH400 with a brake and a 9 inch with 4.57s this year. New converter too. The new converter is a little looser but not much. My best so far this year is a 12.40 1/4 mile and a 7.68 1/8 mile. The 7.68 was this past weekend at the No Box Bonanza at Summit Motorsports Park. DA was 2400. I launch on the 2 step at about 3700. Best 60' so far is 1.57.

Other mods are Pypes LT headers, Detroit Rocker cams, JLT CAI, CMDP, Electric WP, PS bypass, MSD 2 step, UD Pullies, Brenspeed 93 Tune, 15" big and littles, removed passenger seat, BMR Tubular Rad Support, Rod End LCAs, UCA and Panhard bar. I think that's about it.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I think I finally have a bracket car that can go some rounds. :)

This past weekend I had my 2005 Mustang GT Stocker at the track for some testing and racing. Over the course of 2 days, I made 34 passes with it.

With the stock convertor, stock 3.31s, and stock engine ( with a CAI and tune only, but electric water pump and short belt for the alt. only)

Best 60 ft= 1.94
Best e.t. was an off the trailer 8.45
Best mph was 84.xx

I wanted to test the car's modified cooling system to see how quickly it would cool down between rounds, especially in heat over 90 degrees.

During open time runs, I made 6 passes in less than 59 minutes and the water temp at the starting line was 150 degrees on every run.

All runs were made in the same lane to eliminate the lane variable and the hood remained closed throughout the test period.

The quickest of the 6 runs was 8.47 and the slowest was 8.51 so I am very pleased with the 3v. The powertrain was consistent.
Now I need to work on the throttle sensitivity ...

I am a tune change away from getting rid of the "twitchy" throttle while footbrake staging in the beams. Once that problem is solved, I hope I can barely stage each time and cut good lights.

34 runs in 2 days:

The 6 passes in one hour with the hood closed:

That's a decent 60 ft. time.
Do you have any idea what your car weighs with you in it ?
You have a few similar mods to mine.

I am curious how well that MSD 2 step works. Is it an easy plug in ?

I weighed it at Norwalk last weekend. With me in it, it weighed 3420. I weigh 220.

The MSD 2 step works great and is an easy install. Just follow the directions closely. I got in a hurry and accidentally skipped a step and ended up with 8 fouled plugs.

With a 3k stall, long tubes, cams, mild tune, 373's, and weight of 3600 lbs.+ with driver, I would run low 13s using drag radials. Adding the 3k stall knocked almost 2/10's of my 60' times, to around 1.8-1.9. Best was revving at the line pretty-much anywhere between 1400-2200 rpm; anything higher didn't help. At one point I was also optimizing the shifts in the tune, getting some very small improvements based on the rpm the shifts would occur.

It was a very consistent setup and made simple/amateurish bracket racing very easy :)

That's good to know

Looks great !
Those rear tires almost look like 9 x 30 slicks.
Whatever size they are, they look good on your car

I was kinda figuring the converter would be worth at least 2-3 tenths in the 1/4 mile by itself.
Maybe more with stock gears.
My car shifts at 6100 now

I have stock rear gears now but plan to go to 4.56's since it is a dedicated drag car, so the steeper gears should be worth another 1-2 tenths...maybe.

I'm still on the line about going full race car. I've pulled a lot of weight out but just can't go all the way yet. (Pulling A/C, Electric water pump, steeper gear, etc) I'm still considering it though.
