Morning all. I've just purchased a barton short throw shifter with the sr gasket. Told a fellow mustang enthusiast and he told me to return it and spend the extra 100 on the mgw. Thoughts? Is it less noisey? Tia 2012 gt 6m

Spend the extra C note. If you can't drive a manual shift Mustang with an MGW shifter you need to turn in your license. It's that nice of a shifter. The only thing I miss about my 13 stick shift car is the MGW shifter.

This. Barton is good, but I even had the 2 post version on my '12 Brembo, and it still had areas that needed improvement. They have a newer Hybrid 3 system now (never tried it), but it is the same price range as the MGW. If you are strapped for cash, then Barton 2-post. Otherwise go ahead and dump the money on a MGW.

You will not need the gasket with a MGW shifter since it replaces the entire shift box itself. You will need to get the car in the air since the MGW does have some aspects of the install that require access from below. Jack stands and working on your back is easy enough. MGW's video install is spot on.

I bought both and returned the Barton. They both looked really good. What sold me on the MGW was the sheer weight of the unit. almost a full pound heavier. Than the Barton, my thought was that it would deaden or help at least vibration through the shift handle.
Most likely not needed but that was my goofy reason...

I am confused looked on both websites

MGW $470

Barton $475

Barton used to make a cheesy 2 post for around $300. Probably what the OP has. In addition to the DUI apparently. Guess they discontinued it in favor of the hybrid 3 post.

And if you wanna get real technical isn't the RaceSpec $475 or the same as the Barton now?

Either way there isn't a price difference between the two.

AM still sells the single and 2 post versions. It seems like the Hybrid 3 is their attempt to be an MGW.

Yet it still mounts to the chassis... I don't understand why they do that. Probably so it doesn't look like a complete rip off of the MGW.

Another MGW vote here. Don't waste your money on other shifters because you'll end up with an MGW eventually.

Agreed, I deserved it. Expensive lesson learned, 8k to be exact.

Well super appreciative of all the thoughtful responses of knowledge. I guess I'll just live with the stock shifter until my dui is played off and put in the mgw. Thanks again everyone.

Wise decision on the MGW. As for the DUI, someone cut you a break whether you realize it or not. You could have killed someone's father/mother/son/daughter/friend. I hope you learn from the mistake rather than blindly and arrogantly repeat it in the future. I wish they would clamp down on texting and driving laws and enforce equally as strict punishment for killing someone while texting and driving.
