Hi,

I want to upgrade my 07 GT suspension with sway bars from the later models, but I'm totally lost in part numbers.
I know that the later models have 24 mm rear and 34.6 mm front diameter, but thats all. When I look at tascaparts I find

front:
BR3Z-5482-A for 164$ and BR3Z-5482-B 132$

I find descriptions like Upgraded 1,2 or convertible, performance package and so on.

for the rear its a CR3Z-5A772-T for 50$ and BR3Z-5A772-A 165$ or BR3Z-5482-F for 78$

What are the differences and which to choose for an 07 upgrade.

I'm living in Germany and despite h&r and Eibach is only 70 mi away, they don't offer sway bars for the german market, so this is not an option.

Thanks for your help

Michael

Thanks, didn't know that beside springs and shocks the sway bars are different between normal GT and Performance package.

I know bushings from Whiteline here but no sway bars. The problem is the mandatory TUV certificate you need. If you bolt colorful parts on the frame you provoke questions from police and insurance. Original Ford parts is easier to use.
To get TUV approval for new Ford wheels is a nightmare, sway bars and springs nobody cares, as long its black.

Thanks.

The OEM bars are so close in stiffnesses that you would be better off going with an aftermarket bar. Will BMR ship to you?

Would painting the bar black pass? The reason I ask is Whiteline, at one point, offered black bushings for their sway bars instead of their normal yellow. They said people had requested an "OEM" look for the bushings.

Thanks.

Can you get black spray paint? lol

I put the Eibach sway bar kit (front&rear) on mine as the V6s don't get a rear bar from Ford. The front is 3 position adjustable, the rear is not adjustable.

Right now I have the normal sway bars for the 07, 20 mm rear and 34 mm front, combined with the soft rear springs and stiff front. Shocks and struts are Tokico D-spec.

I have in mind to change the springs to the later models performance package combined with the sway bars. I don't know if this change is reasonable to improve performance.

The TUV is like inspections in California. No Ford part number means no approval, except you have a special certificate. Aftermarket sway bars and springs have to have such certificates, shocks/struts not. Adjustable sway bars are never OEM parts and it depends on the inspector if you pass or not.
If the police stops you and thinks that you have no TUV approval, they take your car right now to inspection. No fun. Worst case is having an accident with such a car. So I want to use Ford parts or parts with certificate.
It makes sense if you are allowed to drive 140 mph with no approved suspension parts, its probably dangerous.

Do you think change to 2011+ parts is an improvement?

FYI: I installed the 2011+ parts now on my 07. The rear bar is just a bolt on, the front bar is not. The distance between the bolts is on a 2011 larger so I had to grind out the holes in the new mounting bracket; approximately 2 mm each hole. Second, the new sway bar bushings are now pressed on the bar in a fixed position. To mount the sway bar links I had to raise the strut one inch combined pressing the bar down with a piece of wood. Once one link was in place, the other side was no further problem.

Damn, that is fucked up. How can you possibly set up a car for track use?

You can't if parts don't have a certificate. You must use a trailer that means a race-only car or re-configure it or take the risk.

Last year some idiots did some illegal 1/4 mile races in cities like Cologne and Berlin, crossed red lights and killed people standing around. Now police have special task forces to stop unusual or loud cars for inspection.
If they suspect a modified muffler they take your car immediately and the fine is high.

The change to the 11+ sway bars was a good improvement. The car is much more stable as expected. Especially on the rear axle the right - left roll is minimized.

An other side effect I noticed: The front suspension has become gentle and quite over bumps now. Probably that is because the sway bar bushing is much bigger than on the 07 and the NVH is lower?

Newer rubber is softer.
