Well the Track Key only works with manual cars. My guess is at a production of around 2000 manual cars a month, we are talking about 8000 Mustang GTs with 6spd Manual transmissions. There were no Boss Automatics.

... Some people question why this is so. Ford says they made a running change to the dash. Some say they used leftover Boss engines with the standard intakes. I have bumped against the cutoff several times with the engine pulling very hard at the cutoff.

I am fully aware of the configuration of the BOSS302. I am speaking in reference to your comment in bold above in reply #3. The key and the dual channel PCM are specific to standard shift models only and have no capability of being used with a 6R80. HOWEVER it would have been possible to use left over 13 Boss long blocks OR short blocks in late model 14 model GT's with either transmission configuration. Your statement had two topics whether you realized it or not. Therefore if Ford chose to use left over BOSS 302 blocks (long or short block assemblies) -- even with the stock GT intake -- in late model 2014 GT's they could have been used in either configuration. To someone like me running a modified setup on a 14 with forced induction, this would be of way more interest than a key that generates a fake cam idle and adds a few HP to the otherwise stock output.

Agreed. I do know when Chrysler stopped the 440 Six Pack, they used the leftover heavy duty six pack rods in police cars and motor homes and maybe even a few standard 440 cars until they discontinued the 440 motor. So yes, it's not so much this "KEY for me as it is to understand exactly what I got here with Mustangs made a few months right after they discontinued the Boss 302. Then the "KEY" here is it seems that you can use this very strange Track Key with the 2014 Mustang GT just like the Boss 302s from 2012 and 13.

So if we could find out what the stamp numbers on a BOSS 302 block are we should be able to determine if this is myth or fact; and that is assuming there would be different markings on the Boss block vice a standard Coyote GT block. Obviously the VIN nor the data sticker on the driver side door jam will tell us anything. Too bad a Build of Materials (BOM) isn't created with each car build as this would possibly shed light on what was actually used.

It may be possible to use the engine ID code located on one of the valve covers. It has a 2D barcode on it and right above it is the engine number code. I have been unsuccessful trying to search for a breakdown of those codes on the web, but I suspect that if a person were to copy those numbers off of the valve cover and give FRPP a call or take them to a local Ford dealer (with a customer service friendly tech shop) he/she may get some enlightenment. Below is all the shop manual 411 I could find on the topic.

What I was hoping for would be someone here that took apart a early build 2014 Coyote Engine and would see Boss parts. That is what happened with those 440 Six Pack rods in the mid 1970s. Was it planned that the Boss 302 for 2014 would be discontinued or was it a surprise and a last minute thing with the warehouse guy saying, well what the hell are we going to do with all these Boss long blocks??

OK The Interchange Guide says the 2013 Boss 302 has ECU number DR3A-12A650-ACC and that ACD and ACE interchange. I have DR3A-12A650-ACD. It's again for the 2014 GT Base 6M with a build date of 8/13 with an ECU Serial number of 4000075987. So the 2014 Base GT with an early build date does have an ECU that will interchange with a 2013 Boss ECU.

Here is a picture of a Boss Rod with the larger I-Beam Supports. They were purchased at a flea marked from someone that said one of the rods had a broken cap. It was taken out of a late model 2013. It's been said the Ford makes both rods with the same materials on the same Ford Rod Making Machine. Rod to the left is a standard Coyote rod.
