Hey I’m new to the forum and just purchased a 2006 gt fully stock except exhaust. I def want to get more power out of this. However it is going to be my daily driver and I’m unsure if I should commit and just throw a supercharger in it or just add some bolt ons and get a little less power. Not too sure about the kind of maintenance that goes into a supercharger and how it affects my engine and everything else. Any advice or what I should do would be greatly appreciated thanks!

It all depends on your budget. If you plan on doing a supercharger at some point, don’t waste your money on any other power mods. Start with the basics, better tires and upgraded brake fluid/pads/rotors. If your car is a manual, upgrade your shifter(mgw is a great option). Fully sort the car before you throw more power at it.

I didn’t really have too much of a budget honestly but was def going to do things slowly but don’t even know what I want to start on or where and what direction is best

Best start is a tune. Cai and tune usually saves a bit.

From there it's all dependent in what you want the car for eventually.

I really just want it fast but very reliable since it’s a daily for now but really want to be able to run the car with no problems for a long time

I really enjoyed my swap to 4.10s too. Also loved my cams, Detroit rockers.

Blower, best bang for the HP buck

Completely agree. But the addiction to boost can be a little more risk to reliability. Doesn't mean it won't be reliable but we all know speed is addicting.

I know a lot of people have the hot rods, but i really love the detroit rockers. Definitely noticed gains from them.

You should try to decide if a blower is in your future for this car or not before you start, especially when it comes to cams and rear gears. This is because the correct cams and rear gears differ for supercharged cars. The hp per dollar on cams isn't there with the 3v, but some do sound good. I have the Brenspeed Detroit Rocker blower grind cams.

What does everyone recommend better for a daily drive just all bolt ons or just build that sweet ride with the supercharger I’m just not sure the maintenance with the supercharger so much been trying to research but haven’t found too much

I vote for boost as well because typical bolt ons won't bring any big power gains. But someone made a great point about the risk to reliability that comes with boost. It's possible to keep everything together with 450whp on a safe tune but I can promise you the itch for more power won't stop there. So unless you are prepared to go all in on upgraded engine internals and trans, keep it NA. Get you some cams, cold air intake, tune, and gears and you can have a car to enjoy without breaking the bank or having to chase issues all the time.

Most engines will tolerate moderate boost and be reliable. Personally, 9 psi is where I feel 'safe' without building the bottom end up. But, you must have a safe tune to go along with it, and run premium fuel. Generally speaking, the closer you get to doubling the HP, ~14psi, the higher the chances get of blowing it up.

Warning: Boost is addictive!

First thing I would do is decide how you want to use the car. Will it be a daily driver, 1/4 mile car or maybe a track day car. Your build or add-ons are going to be different for the situation. If you are planning on doing track days I would probably leave the supercharger off and keep it NA. Superchargers add more power but also add more heat, so when pushing them heat becomes an issue. If doing a track day car put your money into brakes, suspension, and tires. A 1/4 mile car will be more drivetrain upgrades, transmission, TQ, driveshaft, axle, rear end. Daily driver or weekend cruiser, throw the SC on it. It really comes down to what you want to do with it.
There is really no maintenance with a supercharger, I have 53,000 miles on my 2010 Roush and that is with a 2.49 pulley pushing 9lbs boost. My tune is by JDM Engineering.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do with it. Just enjoy it and drive it instead of looking at it....

One more item, if you add a supercharger you also will need a heat exchanger, you may need to modify your front fascia if you add that....

If this is a daily and you are on a budget and want it reliable then first should be a CIA with a tune. I recommend Lund or Lito. You will need to purchase a tuning device to use their tune. Lito would be the most cost effective with a used SCT. Lund uses the nGauge and it can be expensive. The next step should be headers with axle back mufflers for power and the awesome sound that makes it fun to drive. Then some cams but don't go to radical or it won't be fun to drive anymore. Detroit Rockers N/A cams are a perfect choice. Going to a lower gear like 4.10's make it fun but if you drive it and gas mileage is an issue then you may want to stay with the factor gears.
Boost is the way to go but not everybody thinks about what goes along with it and the cost. Superchargers are very dependable depending on what you choose. Shelby and Roush are perfect examples of that. Great cars and super reliable.
Let's face it.......If you had disposable income you would not be asking this question. You are probably like most of us, you want something you don't need. LOL
Search this forum and you will find a wealth of information that will answer all your questions.

If you choose supercharger maintenance on OEM type units such as the M90, M122, Roush/TVS is typically low. Just don't drive your car if it is overheating.Trust me I mangled a brand new Trinity TVS this way. Edlebrock probably falls into this group as well since it shares the TVS rotorpack, but IDK for sure. If you find a new or lightly used ford racing 2.3 whipple that probably a good maintenance choice also, my Ford master tech/ dyno tuner speaks highly of them. My experience with centrifugals is from 15 - 20 years ago, and based on what I still see today the aftermarket really hasn't addressed the issues with bearings, seals, and tensioners so IMO avoid if significant street duty is your goal. I wouldn't buy the Saleen or any of the KB units for the 3v either based on durability concerns.
Side note. When my 07 GT was stock it wheel hopped like crazy, so BMR lower control arms were near the top of my list for first mods.

Yeah no maintenance required on a centrifugal blower either. The Procharger setup I had required oil changes but the PD blowers mentioned need them too I believe. My complaint with this was that I couldn't access the serpentine belt because of the blower bracket being in the way. Maybe I was too dense to figure out a way to remove and install a serp belt without removing the blower assembly but that's what I had to do. The same needs to be done if you need to replace the notorious alternator in these cars.

As for drivetrain & trans upgrades, unless your goals involve dead hooking at the strip and aiming for 1.5x or better 60' times, there's no need to spend a ton of money here. The 8.8" diff is stout and these cars got 31 spline axles from the factory which was a nice upgrade over the SN95 cars.

Many of us can say this. Once the mod bug starts, it doesn't stop. My advice would be to wait until you can afford a supercharger. I wish I would have done this. I went through all the phases. Got a tune and CAI. It was good enough but didn't meet my needs. Went to gears and cams. Again good gains but not enough. Saleen supercharger phase 1. Great gains but not enough. Im on phase 3 now and its got great power with the torque convertor. Its very tempting to just add the bolt ons and hope that will satisfy your wants. But if you already have a supercharger in your mind then long road of bolts ons will likely lead you to a supercharger. If you go the cash to do it then you might as well. If you do not have the cash then you should save up for it.

Since you plan on daily driving this...will you be driving in snow? If so, how deep?
