Glad I found this forum. I searched all ABS and P0340 posts and I'm (almost) convinced my alternator is causing the heartache on my 2006 GT with 35K miles. Just don't want another one that will give me the same issue. Recommendations for a brand and source would be appreciated.

I also would appreciate knowing how to disconnect that %$#@%$ buzzer, or even the whole ABS system. Thanks to all.

Assuming the alternator is the problem, and assuming you don't want a standard 135 amp alternator from your favorite auto parts store, you will read two recommendations:

1. Get a 2009-2010 GT "Denzo" alternator. They allegedly use a better technology that is more reliable. Can be had in a couple different amp ratings. I have seen 150-165. The Department of Boost sells them for as cheap as I've seen.

2. Or you can go to Paperformance.com, and you will have a number of choices for your car ranging from 135 amps to 200 amps.

If you upgrade the amperage, you will want to consider upgrading the power cable also.

Hope this helps.

I am running the DoB Denso. Great unit if you are fine with moving the wire loom that feeds it just a tad which will require some re-taping. All denso's require it anyway. If I had to do it over, I'd source the 2009 - 2010 Denso from a dealership to get the warranty. DoB warrant is none existent on paper, but is via their reputation which if you can't prove it was the alternator that failed means nothing. The plus from getting it from DoB is you can get it powder coated black. Good looking unit. Solved my problems. Time will tell though.

Department of Boost or PA performance are the only ones you should consider

Thanks for ALL of the input. I should have included what is happening. ABS TCS and brake lights (and the obnoxious alarm) come on all together a random, but more when I first start. I fixed the reported ground issue and that seemed stop it for a while. I am getting more frequent MIL-check engine illuminations for P0340. I have replaced both cam sensors.

I used the 2007 Crown Vic 215 AMP (Police interceptor) alternator on my mustang. It a Mitsubishi and not a Denso. It's been GREAT!

I bought mine at O'Reilly's auto parts store and haven't had an issue since ( Ultima brand). They carry a lifetime warranty, so if it craps out I get a brand new one ( not a rebuild)....easy enough to change, so I decided to go that route. Good luck.

Let us know if a new alternator fixes that 0340 code. The ABS and TCS lights may be a different issue.

Did the Crown Vic alternator fit without modification?

Yea, I thought about that route when I was looking, but read where people were having to replace them every 5-10k miles due to them still being the same model alternator that wasn't improved upon.

Or they may all be related if the cause is an AC ripple current leaking past a faulty alternator diode. It's easy enough to perform an AC ripple test if you have a digital multimeter, and there are plenty of informative videos in Youtube to guide you.

Can you please tell me if any modification were involved and the part number. Thank you.

Update: Seems the ABS/TCS alarm is solved again by cleaning contacts on the ABS module and internally re-soldering all of the connector pins. DMM doesn't show much AC voltage at the battery, but monitoring ECM voltage while driving shows rapid variation between about 12.7 and 14 volts. I still think it could be the alternator. Getting ready to take the chance.

For what it is worth . . . I use an Aeroforce gauge via the OBDII. It showed .2-.4 lower than at the battery when testing there. And, via that same gauge, I routinely see fluctuations from 13.4 - 14.0. Every now and then, I'll see it dip under 13 for just a few seconds and then bump back up. Supposedly, my alternator tested good -- and the shop was adamant it was good cause I was convinced it wasn't.

Good tip. I just fear replacing the alternator & still having the issue. Anyone know where I can get the parts to rebuild it myself? I am up against the clock as inspection is due 9/1/18

I saw the alternator at Quality Power, they stated that is a 100% fit physically but the alternator will not communicate with the computer and it will throw a code that will not be able to remove. Is that your case? or it did not throw a code? Thank you for your help..
