Wastegate=Turbo.

The only way to alter boost on superchargers is pulley swap.

You can use a blow-off valve. There was a post here a few months back. I can't find it right now. I kinda remember that it said to plumb back to the inlet side of the supercharger down stream of the MAF, so that the air isn't metered twice, for ease of tuning.

Wrong. Pulley for high boost and use the waste gate to manage how much actually passes through the intercooler (why cool more than you need?) and use the blow off valve to handle the boost stack wave when the throttle slams shut.

If you want 10ish psi at 2500 rpm pulley for 24 psi at 6000 rpm. At around 2500 rpm your boost stops rising at about 10 psi and stays more or less flat. But if you use an electronic boost waste gate controller you can not only select the psi you want you can custom tailor boost versus rpm. If power drops off after say 4500 rpm you can add more boost (and tune for all this) at/above those speeds to elevate the torque and the resultant horsepower.

This is all theory on a 3V. Though it has been done on a Foxbody in a MM&FF article.

No, A BOV will dump ALL Boost, you need a wastegate, Yes the WG needs to be Pre-MAF ... A couple local guys are running dumped wastegated centri's and they sound like turbo's popping off.

You shouldn't need anything too big,, The Turbo smart 38 is a compact unit that won't break your wallet, they run 250..

The Chinese stuff is even cheaper and maybe reliable [??] for venting air.

I've tried to get a friend of mine to do this with his Procharged 4.6 DOHC. He got one of the very last 4V Aluminator long blocks. I told him he could have his current peak boost almost 3000 rpm sooner but he can't see how it works so he says "Nah. I'm fine with it as it is." Crazy thing is he thinks PD blowers are great. His car came with the Procharger and I was like it'd be almost like having a PD blower and he still says no. What can you do?

tjm73 is right. Overspeeding the supercharger and managing the flow with a wastegate pre-MAF actually works pretty good. Coupled with an EBC, you get boost control over a centrifugal supercharger, which is pretty fun.

I understand now, a BOV, electric or otherwise, is purely a safety relief valve and doesn't have precise controlability. A WG acts as a pressure relief valve.

...if you use an electronic boost waste gate controller you can not only select the psi you want you can custom tailor boost versus rpm. If power drops off after say 4500 rpm you can add more boost (and tune for all this) at/above those speeds to elevate the torque and the resultant horsepower.

Is this configuration ever used as a launch control?

Thanks
