I just bought a 2013 V6 at auction and noticed that the rubber boot on the drive shaft i melted. Does anyone have an idea how that could have happened? Is there supposed to be a heat shield between the exhaust and the boot? Is a replacement boot available?

I never seen one on mustangs. I have heard on Jeep's when there stressed off roading and high temp exhaust did it. So logically am going say exhaust mustang have done it. But then the question is, what caused the exhaust to get that hot on your mustang!

Exhaust clamps missing? Maybe the last owner had long tube headers and an aluminum driveshaft then installed the factory stock parts before he sold it?

Probably an exhaust leak there, the boot is available from Ford Parts I believe. And it is missing a clamp I think in that photo. Probably what others said, IDK about an aluminum one piece DS, but probably tossed on the stock exhaust to sell the LTs and didn't clamp it. 15-20 miles of exhaust leak is plenty to burn through rubber right there
