Ok, I am selling my 2009 GT Premium convertible and going for a 2013 or 2014 GT Premium coupe with a six speed stick. The 2005-09's had many problems, door panels, stereos, Smart junction blocks, HT heads, etc. Are there any significant potential problems that I need to be aware of in the 13-14s? Any info is appreciated. TIA

Hmm besides the peeling door panels you can reglue those other issues were fixed after 06 for the most part. As for the Coyotes I've heard of lifter tick as being a big problem, the Getrag trans is kinda trash, and the clutch is ify but thats about it.

The first 2014's made in August and September 2013 might have Boss motors in them and for sure they have Boss ECUs.

Honestly the 6 speed manual isn't the way to go ..yeah I have one and if I had it to do over again I would have gone auto all the way..Ive not had issues with mine but overall performance auto outshines the manual all day long

Use almighty Google, or research KBB & NADA reviews...all vehicles have their issues & sometimes it's all in previous owner. Don't fret, shop away & enjoy the new-to-you wheels.

I'm very surprised to hear the knocks on the MT82. Was not aware of any problems with it. Of course the GT500 has a better trans just because of the additional horsepower handling. The TR3650 in my other '09 seems OK especially after I put a Barton shifter on it. I planned on installing a Barton or a MGW on my new purchase. An auto is nice but I really enjoy shifting.

There's nothing wrong with the MT82. I've been daily driving a 14 GT with the manual for over four years now. That includes occasional autox events. It's the best GT I've ever owned, hence the reason I still own it. It has none of the problems of my old 08 GT, which had every issue except the RF water leak.

The MT-82 (or any manual tranny) probably isn't the way to go if either (aftermarket) forced induction or much drag racing is in the game plan. Stay NA and don't force the shifts and even an MT-82 will live.

That said, the 6-speed Tremecs are still more durable.

With an MT-82 made by BMW/Mercedes Benz China supervision, it's kind of like this. A normal drive down the track 13.20 at 112 with years of use. A little speed shifting and it's 12.40 at 115 and maybe it acts up in a year or two. Drive it like you really hate it, 11.95 at 118 and expect to replace it in under a year.

I drove a friends auto '15 GT while he was deployed. It's certainly not the shit auto's of the past. Feels very stout and snappy. My only complaint is it doesn't flow with what gear I would be in if I had control of the gear box. Also shifts way early for my taste. But I like drawing out a gear for the exhaust note. I suppose it's just an economy thing. I beat the ragged hell out my 3650 in the '08 GT. 6k rpm launches, lots of gear grinds due to shitty hydrallic setup/clutch combos. It took it all, and put up with 500ft/lbs of torque for years. Well beyond its "rating." Hard to believe the MT82 could be more shit than the 3650. Sad if it is. Yet another notch in the cons list for me in considering a coyote platform. I just don't think I could live with an auto V8 Mustang, faster/stronger or not.

47,000 miles on my MT-82 in my '13, and about 25,000 of those miles the car's been supercharged. At about 600 rwhp for the last 2 years or so.
It's been a daily driver, it's been down the track before the supercharger (slow-shifted to four 12.8 runs in a row), it's been autocrossed.
Stock clutch, Barton 1-post rear bracket, Barton shifter.
Changed out the fluid to a custom blend from BND Automotive and that made a big difference in the shift feel.

Occasionally I wish I went auto but most of the time I'm glad I got the manual ... It's a much more engaging experience, and you can't do a rolling 2nd gear clutch dump with an auto, lol

I've got 90k on my '11 GT with the MT82. Year round daily driver, commuter, ski car, lots of road course track days. Drivetrain is 100 percent stock and never opened. For this type of use I give the trans a B+, not as awesome as the engine and not as bad as what you read online. Only complaint I have is it doesn't like to go into 2nd when starting out on really cold days. I go to 1 to 3 and after 5 min of driving it's fine again. I think a lot of failures are with really big power cars and/or intense drag strip or road racing.

Thanks for all replies. I do not plan any track use just a fun driver. I really like shifting and I plan on a MGW shifter so banging an occasional gear should not be a big issue. A 6 speed it will be! Thanks again, it gave me lots to think about.
