New here, I didn't see a place for introductions....name's Tommy and I just traded a family member out of an '06 V6 with a few minor problems. Most of which I've already taken care of.
This one has my pulling my hair out..
It's a "bump-bump-bump" coming from what I think is the differential, it sounds like a tire is going over a small speed bump every 15 feet. It's perfectly timed. It does not get louder or softer, it does not change in a turn, it's constant and directly related to the speed of the car.
I was hoping it was a tire, however by marking a tire and watching with a mirror held out the window as I drove, the bumps are not every tire rotation, but every 2 1/2 or 3 tire rotations. Which causes me to believe it's not a wheel bearing, bent axle, or damaged ring gear.
And It's way to slow to be in time with the rotation of the drive shaft, (it bumps once for every nine or ten rotations of that), so I don't think its a carrier bearing, U-joint, or the pinion gear/bearing.
Tomorrow, I'll top off the oil level in the differential. If that changes nothing I guess I'll pull the cover and check out the guts in the pumpkin.
