so I’ve been looking at the forums for water leaks in our cars but I don’t think my issue is the same everyone else’s. My cars symtoms are
1. Wet driver and passenger footwell
2. The top portion of the carpet closest to the dash on both sides are dry
3. The firewall is completely dry and is even dusty so I highly doubt there was any water coming through any of the grommets
4. It’s only damp when I have my floor mats in
5. The drains in the cowls are completely free of debris. The rubber grommet in the drain was taken out because it kept clogging.
6. My car doesn’t see a lot of rain since I live in Texas and I park under a cover.
I believe it’s condensation because moisture is getting trapped due to my mats not letting the carpet breathe. I have weathertech mats.
Anyone else have any ideas? I plan to put a sound denting/insulation sheet on both floors.

Have you checked the evaporator drain tube for the AC evaporator?
If it's plugged, the condensation coming off the AC evaporator will overflow into the interior.

EDIT: corrected terms

Where is this and what does it look like?

I think he means the evaporator and that would likely only wet the right side.

Have you checked the trim around the side windows?

I had a similar issue that started with just a little bit of moisture that didn't seem to be related to precipitation, though as it got worse the floors were very wet every time it rained. Back when I had the issue I found a YouTube video that was pretty helpful. Somewhere in there is the part number for the replacement seal. though I've heard of people using adhesive backed foam and RTV sealant as well.

If you still can't find the source of the leak you might try pressurizing the cabin and spraying the car down with soapy solution.

Do you think both sides could have failed though, since both floor boards were wet?

By the time I got mine figured out both had gone bad.

It's not too bad to get apart to check. Just a few screws and a pin or two, as I recall...
Really hope mine aren’t bad each side is 100 bucks to replace. Really don’t want to spend 200 on window seals

I’ll check them when I get the chance but wouldn’t I see them leak in the rain if they were bad?

Actually, no you wouldn't see them leak. I had to remove the interior trim to "see" the water coming through. With the interior trim in place, any water leaking past the door opening trim seal is hidden and makes it way down to the floor unseen.

Figured it out. I saw water coming in from the upper seal I’m assuming both are bad so yay there’s $150 in seals

If you're having condensation under the mat I suggest you place some dynamat or dynamat replica to help insulate the metal under the floor. Reason why is the condensation can cause mold to form over the years and help jump start rust forming.

I used regular foam tape from a friend. As long as it roughly matches the size, youre good. No need to spend 200 bucks on Ford stuff.
