I’m at a point right now of deciding to try and fix the ghosting and put on a hood scoop or just getting a new hood. Do you think I can cut and buff this out?

If it was applied on clear coat then yeah rubbing compound should take it out. Worth a shot at least.

If the ghosting is from years of sun fade, you'll never get it to match since the rest of the hood has been "bleached" from the UV rays over the years.

Worth a shot but I don't think it will come out. Didn't you have another hood problem you were thinking of fixing or was that someone else?

Well I hit it with my buffer and rubbing compound twice and the result is pretty decent. The color matches fine but there is just the faintest of little lines where the edges of the vinyl were. You can only see it from a few inches away and only in its reflection. I think I’m going to make another pass, hope I don’t burn through but my ocd won’t let me not try.

Yes that’s me. You can see above there is a crease from underneath right smack dab in the middle of the hood. If I can make the rest of the hood look good I will cover it with a stock scoop. If I can’t get the paint to look decent enough for me I will just get a new hood. So trying to save a few bucks as I haven’t worked in 6 mos and have another car build going on.
