I read that they can tow 7500 pounds. Bullshit! My camper is about 5500 pound and you could not pay me to tow it with a Ranger. My 2000 5.4 F150 struggles sometimes in the hills and with wind.

And if you are buying a $45K+ truck and you buy a Ranger over a F150, PT Barnum was right.

There's a sucker born every minute.

While I'm not disagreeing an F150 better choice for towing if comparing new, you'd probably be surprised everythings grown. The new ranger is 85.8" wide excluding mirrors, thats wider than your F150 and my 2013 f150 at around 79", sounds like weighs mid 4k lbs what's your's around 5k? Power wise your 5.4 is 260hp/350tq vs Ranger's 270/310 and if it's like the 3.5 eco it pulls from low and across rpm's. It's a body on frame truck and some newer tech probably helps along the way. You might end up embarassed by it in a tow off

I know Ford & Ford lovers rebutted the oil change snafu (e.g. stating tire/fender well must be removed), but even tearing into the wheel well is a bitch. Back in '89, I owned a Pontiac Sunbird and hated every oil/filter change b/c you still had to "" the front wheels and rip out 1/2 the inner well to gain filter access. Then, you end up spilling oil everywhere as well. Either way, hate to say it, love my 2018 Chevy Colorado...filter's where it should be (accessible). I know that's a swear word here (Chevy), but engineers/designers should put more thought into shade-tree mechanics (IMO).

Sure not as bad, but the setup on 13 eco f150's is pretty annoying. Built in funnels to catch the oil from the filter. Actually 2, one if it's flat (on lift) and one if it's on ramps/stands (tilted back). Works ok except it's guaranteed to continue dripping. Here's a great idea, let's build in a feature to make oil drips in driveways/garages!

I saw my first new Ranger in person last week, it is larger than I expected, quite different from my 93'. I heard it is about the same size as the original F150? Not sure I believe that....

There is no way it's wider than a '13 F150

Just sat in one at the big auto show in Boston. It was fairly snug in there for just my wife and I.

The F150 showed up in 1975 and had a track width of 64.9" F/64.4" R. The 2019 Ranger is 61.41" front and rear.

45k MSRP

I would think you could get it for 37k as im sure there will be incentives for purchasing. But I would agree that 45k is seemingly expensive for a Ford Ranger. It does look like a nice truck. Im in the process of looking at Dodge Rebel 12. Found a few dealers with them and started negotiations. That 12 inch screen looks pretty cool. I have 2014 Tundra that ill be trading in thats paid off.

Vehicles are getting more and more expensive but the consumer is driving it up. Everyone wants more safety features for their kids. Everyone wants more electronics so that the car driving experience is more enjoyable. Look no further that a high school parking lot. You won't find a rust bucket anywhere. Christ parents by kids new cars or not very old used cars. Its ridiculous. We have gaudianship of my niece so she drives our 2012 fusion. Car has 150k on it and still drives good, and sounds good mechanically.

$45K is for a fully loaded truck. You can get one for almost half that if you go no frills.

Which is kind of what the original Ranger was known as. So not that far off if you go as close to apples/apples as possible, everything else considered.

I think they understand that a Ford Ranger is gonna need to be fully loaded to create much interest. Tin cans don't sell now days.

Because too many people over buy their cars these days. And the mfg's help push that by tying "packages" together. If you want satelite radio, you have to buy a $1500 "technology package". Which is bullshit. It's holding desirable features hostage for exorbitant funding. Profit padding.

Sure they do, especially to fleet operations. Hence the Ranger XL which starts at $24,300. Still has some nonsense included like Sync and a 4G wi-fi hotspot. Has cloth seats and steel wheels though.

I think they will be popular with lawn care businesses. If operation costs are reasonable, they can tow enough for most of the guys I see running around my area. I see lots of trucks pulling around 2, sometimes 3 zero turns on trailers with an equal number of trimmers and extra fuel. A crew cab could carry a crew of 4 and all the gear they would need for a days work.

Oddly I use to work for Schlumberger (oil field service provider) and none of the trucks were tin cans. Generally loaded of course this was 2007 to 2013. I was always shocked at the trim levels they would get. They may have changed in 16 due to oil price crash.

Took some pics at last week's local car show & have to say...not a fan for now. As w/lots of new models, only comes w/2.3L/Ecoboost 4-cyl (future motor options later, of course). Tried to talk to Ford's "pretty model" rep, but she didn't have alot to offer (other than eye-candy). Overall, it's a nice looking truck w/little-no "wow-factor" to draw me in. Sorry if the pics aren't all too good, but it's hard getting decent angles when everyone's letting their kids crawl all over vehicles like it's a car show/day care.Ranger-0.jpg Ranger-1.jpg Ranger-2.jpg Ranger-3.jpg Ranger-4.jpg Ranger-5.jpg

Ford really needs to offer another FX4 Level II package like they did on the 2002-era Ranger.
Have it offer the overseas Ranger Raptor body/wheels/tires and some better shocks than the regular FX4 package.
And while they're at it, really consider offering a 300-horse naturally-aspirated V6 engine with a 6-speed manual option.
The "old" 3.7 Mustang engine in this truck would really be cool, especially if tuned for more torque, since it is a truck after all.
And don't make it a $50k package cuz really, I'm never gonna spend $45k+ on a small pickup truck.

That's "my" wish list for this thing.

The 2.7EB would be the best thing to happen to the Ranger. But I've read v6 engines won't fit. Simplest solution would be the 3.2 Powerstroke. Only has 185 hp but it has 350 lb-ft.

Even a the Mustang spec tune would be a decent step up.
