Stage 3 ported heads

So I've just started to possibly piece together a built engine on the side to hopefully swap into my vortech SC'd 06 3v around summer time.

Originally just thinking of putting in forged rods and pistons, but I was talking to someone yesterday that has a pair of brand new stage 3 ported heads selling for a discount and I'm wondering if it's a good deal to pass up.

- it's a pair of new, stage 3 ported heads done by Performance CNC in Summerville, SC. PAC springs, titanium hardware, Manley oversized valves, flow 306/222CFM. These info are from the owner.

- he's selling them for $3500 shipped, maybe lower if I pick them up in person-

- these are probably overkill for what I would be doing with my car. I'm slowly building it to be a weekend car and taken to the tracks for HPDE a few times a year. But was just thinking if I'm rebuilding the engine, why not. Not looking to make the car competitive or win races, but reliable and fun for the streets and the tracks

- I've read a lot of posts here, probably not all, but most. Some may suggest why not start with a newer mustang with coyote, but I like this style more and the car is lighter.

- any thoughts with the heads? Good deal or no? Or just waste of money for my purpose?

uff dah, those heads will probably blow up.

Just add 1 psi

Don't stock heads flow close to 300 on the intake side?

From what I've been told the stock heads start getting pretty restrictive in 600 too 700 hp range. That's just what a couple guys in thr industry have said so idk.

Me personally, get a better blower or cams or invest it in other supporting stuff.

Well I would probably never see over 600hp anyways. Not planning to drag race. Was just wondering if the heads are a good deal with the guy's offer, but my original plan was just go forged bottom end and not mess with anything engine wise.

I already got cams. Wouldn't my blower be good enough for road course? With it making less heat and powerband up higher where I'd need it?

I wouldn't spend $3500 on them, that's money better spent on something else. You wouldn't see big gains for that kind of money IMO.

I wouldn’t pay 3500. 1500 tops for heads for me. I always prefer to do them when the motor is out

If you're never going to see more than 600rwhp don't waste the money on the heads. I am running the stage II heads making substantially more power than 600 to the tires and the stage II heads work just fine.

There is no world where worked big valve 3v heads can be had for $1500 unless you work in a machine shop.
A set of stage 3 heads from Livernois are over $4k

You can'r even purchase a decent set of 302/351 heads for less than $1500

Got it, I know. I generally looks for good deals on parts.

That being said my livernois stage 3 heads set me back 1400.

Thanks for the input everyone. Getting aftermarket wasn't really in my original plan, but just so happened I came across this deal from this guy. Was just thinking why not. But knowing that i wont reap the benefits of such an upgrade, I'm just going to pass even though it's almost $1k off in discount. Agreed i have better place to spend that $3500.

The flow capacity of those heads is enough to feed a 323ci Boss block based motor spinning up to 7500rpm, and definitely overkill for a 281.

So... big heads would help but not if they just blow up because of bronze guides or non sodium filled exhaust valves.
