As a lot of folks know Ford has a massive recall on Takata air bags. I won't get into the nuts and bolts of it but suffice to say I've received 4 notices so I took my car in. Quoted 4 hours over the phone,2 hours at the dealership. The reality was it took them under an hour. I'm not griping about the times but it struck me as odd how fast they were done. Got my car back and it seems like nothing was done. The scratch on the horse on my steering wheel is still there. From what I've seen from other owners the whole air bag gets replaced. The passenger side gets the cover removed and reinstalled on the new bag while drivers side gets cover and bag replaced as I believe it's one piece. I have removed both myself to replace my wheel and dented finish panel. If you have had this done did they replace your drivers side bag as a unit? I want your info before I pull mine and check the serial number against the invoice.

It's a 10-15 minute swap. The 2 hour time quote is to give them time to get to it, and for the paperwork to get processed by all the right people.

On the '13-'14 cars for the driver side airbag recall they replace the whole airbag assembly. 2 bolts and it's out. They record the old serial number and new serial number and slap the new airbag in. Done.

On '05-12 cars for the driver side airbag, they remove the airbag, replace the inflator on the back and put it back together.
They still record the old and new serial numbers of the inflators.

The '05-'12 procedure is basically the same thing for all '05-'14 passenger side airbags, only the procedure takes a little longer.

The '13-'14 cars, because the whole driver-side airbag gets replaced, if the car is a GT500 they'll have to order the airbag specifically for the car, or you'll get an airbag with a regular pony on the horn pad instead of the Cobra that's on there on the GT500 airbags.

Reality at my dealership is how busy we are. We are the busiest guy in town. What was done depends on what year the car is. 05-12 cars the Horn/Air Bag is removed and on the underside the inflator is replaced and the Horn/Air Bag is put back. On 13-14 Cars it gets a complete new Horn Pad/Air Bag.

Just received a passenger side one in the mail for my 2010 a few days ago, had drivers side done a couple years ago and think I was at the dealer less than half an hour.

This is great info! I had mine done last summer on my 08, and I assumed it was the passenger side only. Now, I keep getting Ford notices, and I wondered if the dealer messed up because the driver's side doesn't look touched. I'll call and confirm, but I'm hoping they did the necessary work for the steering wheel bag too.

I noticed that what looked like a raised seam on the steering wheel center pad was much less pronounced after the recall work was done. I assumed they must have replaced the whole assembly.

There's a recall on the recall. At least on the driver side. After we had ours done there was another recall issued.

I called both my dealer and Ford today. There are no active recalls on mine .... the previous owner had done the driver’s side Feb 2017. Because the parts were unavailable, the passenger side didn’t get done until I took it in a year later. So, all’s well that ends well

I've probably received close to 40-50 notifications on this recall for my '09 and it's probably time to get it completed (when spring hits - baby sleeps until Apr). Has anyone had luck getting your local dealership to have "both" airbags in-stock so you only have to deal w/one service appt.?

I called Ford and my local dealer last year and they couldn't guarantee they'd have parts available so held off...I like to drive the car, when I can, so hoping to make this fix quick/easy. Also, not wanting any more trees sacrificed for the cause. >.<

I called ahead and spoke with my Service Adviser and made the appointment on condition they had both airbags in stock before I brought the car in. He indicated to me that Ford is stocking the replacements regionally and if the car is brought in first thing in the morning, even if the dealership does not have the part on the shelf they will have it by the afternoon with the car out the same day. Since I called ahead and made the appointment both parts were waiting when I arrived and I was out of the dealership in less than 2 hours. I am located in South Florida but I assume the process is the same nationwide.

I called and made an appointment for both air bags. She still told me it was first come, first serve, so why did I even make a fucking appointment in the first place? Anyways, I'll be there at 7:30am sharp next Monday if all goes as planned. I'm still going to call Friday and confirm I'm not making a 70 mile round trip for nothing.

Have a local tire shop that does not take appointments, you just show up and hope they can work on it, or they will give you a time frame to come back. I hate that shit. Give me a time your going to work on it and stick to it. I'd find a different dealership to do it.

Did the deed, spoke w/Svs Mgr @ local Ford Dealer and they actually ordered both specifically for my car. Will call when parts arrive so I can schedule service. Don't know if this is the norm, but optimistic things will work out in one trip.

The next closest dealership is 120 miles round trip.

That's what they did with me. Called them that morning and they called me back that same afternoon to set up the appointment.

I had both of mine done. They put ery small nicks under my passenger side airbag. I was pissed as hell because for one, I could have just done this myself and two, you DO NOT need to pry from the front of the damn airbag, regardless of the year. push from the BACK and it pops out. Needless to say, they fixed it.

My local dealer doesn’t have the airbags in stock and are unsure when they are getting them. The guy seemed uninterested in helping and said he would call when they are in.. may call another dealer and try somewhere else. I hate dealing with dealership stuff..

I'm taking pics of everything before I go in. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find Bullitt specific dash pieces? I don't even want to think about the steering wheel.

The entire dash set i found a brand new set for 800$! Good lord. I have the "carbon" premium dash panels. But they didnt scratch the panels..the scratched the actual dash underneath the panel above the glovebox. Either way, doesnt matter to me. They fixed it and even if they scratched my airbag cover im making all carbon fiber dash panels since no one makes the airbag cover in carbon fiber..ill just make it myself..along with all the other panels.
