What did you hate about it?

We’re both making around the same power.

Maybe it's different since I'm auto, but I can't use all the gear I have now with stock 3.31's.
Can't imagine even more.

Perhaps this might address your question

  1. Tremec TR-6060
    mustang-transmissions-what-transmission-v8-mustang_9023.jpg
When the 2007 Supercharged Shelby GT500 5.4L came along, it brought with it - you guessed it - another transmission! The Tremec TR-6060 6-speed is based on the T56, but improved from front to back. The aluminum case has an integral bell housing and the output yoke is a fixed design. Like its 05-10 GT sibling TR-3650, the 6060 uses a remote mount shifter. The 26-spline input shaft allows for much greater power handling. There have been three different ratio variations over the years. Gear ratios for the TR-6060 are:

    Year 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Reverse
    2007-2009 GT500 2.97 1.78 1.30 1.00 .80 .63 3.28
    2010-2012 GT500 2.97 1.78 1.30 1.00 .74 .50 3.28
    2013-2014 GT500 2.66 1.82 1.30 1.00 .77 .50 2.90

The TR-6060 can be found behind:
    • 2007-2012 Mustang Shelby GT500 5.4L 4V V8 Supercharged
    • 2013-2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 5.8L 4V V8 Supercharged

  2. Getrag MT82
    mustang-transmissions-what-transmission-v8-mustang_2468.jpg
Ford deviated from their norm with introduction of the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L TiVct. Instead of choosing a Tremec gearbox to back up the Coyote powerplant, they chose an overseas sourced Getrag MT82 6-speed transmission. Like its Tremec predecessors (the Getrag shares no similarities otherwise) the case is ribbed cast aluminum with an integral bellhousing. The output yoke is a fixed design, but the input shaft is an oddball 23-spline. It features six forward gears with a reverse and the shifter is a remote mount design. The same transmission and gearset are used in both the GT and Boss 302. The MT82 is either a love it or hate it gearbox. There have been numerous complaints from consumers about faulty performance. However, there have been no recalls to date. Gear ratios for the MT82 are:
    Year 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Reverse
    2011-2017 5.0L 3.66 2.43 1.69 1.32 1.00 .65 3.32

The MT82 can be found behind:
    • 2011-2014 Mustang GT 5.0L 4V V8 TiVct
    • 2012-2013 Mustang Boss 302 5.0L 4V V8 TiVct
    • 2015-2017 Mustang Mustang GT 5.0L 4V V8 TiVct

Hey John

I have the 3.73s in mine but as said before I have the T56 Magnum with the 2.97 first gear. I'm a few hundred HP below you but very streetable and as you said I can still crank mine over in the first 3 gears. I'd look and see what tires you can get at either 27'' or 28'' and go from there.

The car was geared to do 200 mph, 60 mph in 1st gear, not real practical on the street.
I really like my GT500 factory 3.31s, if you throttle it right once it hooks it blasts to 130mph really fas, I do not drag race/ I rather like the flat stout tq curve for the canyons and twisty flat roads... Kev

GT500's come w/ 3.31 OEM...kev

The 07-12 GT-500's came with a 3.73 rear end. The 13/14 GT-500's came with a 3.31
Story I got was the 13/14 GT-500's, to avoid the gas guzzler tax, went to the 3.31 rear gear.
The Roush cars used a 3.73 rear gear, and the... (aprx $1K) gas guzzler tax was implemented.

Too lazy to look it up, however, I think the 6st gear ratio may have changed as well.

2013-2014 GT500 2.66 1.82 1.30 1.00 .77 .50 2.90

The .50 6th gear was used from 2010-2014. With a 3.31 rear gear, that would equate to aprx 2 krpm @ 100 mph (in 6th gear).....and 1 krpm @ 50 mph...( also in 6th gear).

seems reasonable to me based on my experience

it's not just a swap, new motor, swapping over all accessories, new cams & gears, new dampner, new head bolts, new oil pump,

If you can’t to the work your self be prepared to pay a fair price.
If I didn’t do all my own work, I would not be able to drive fast car.
I’m sure they would do good job. Turn key cost big bucks!

gee whiz that's a nice quote they did for you, that's not free for them to do. Even if you don't end up going with them, drop some beers by sometime.

You might want to ask Justin what he thinks of double keying the crank because of the blower.

And just a side note I just ordered a Gen 3 VMP 67 throttle and larger injectors to pick up at Carlisle nest week.

What exactly does double keying do?

No, I’m going to go with them. I trust that it will be done right.
