Shelby GT500 conversion questions.

I would like in the future to purchase a Shelby GT500 widebody kit for my 2008 v6. The kit I want to buy is sold by APR Performance. I would like to know what kind of hardware or other parts I would need to buy to be able to use this on my car?

I have performance mods in mind for the future. I just like the look of the GT500. I would like to keep the 4.0 because the V6's are underrated. I'd like to push the motor to see how much power I could make. I saw a 4.0 on youtube that was making 384 rwhp and 461 rwtq.

My .02 after owning s197s for 12 yrs and being active on these boards for that time, save your cash and buy a GT500. They can be had now for 27-32K

Consider what you’ll spend on the v6 to get it to 1/2 of a Shelby and I’d say it’s the better choice

$5k for the kits, I’d guess at least $3-4K for prep, paint and install, then $4-6k for your boost, hell you're nearly 1/2 way there, then add the value of your car.

edit - I thought I was responding to the OP - however, the point is the same.

I also didn't mention some other supporting mods that may be needed on a V6, driveshaft, possible fuel system upgrades, rear end upgrade... etc

Plus those types of body kits are usually not that good of a fit. It will cost a few thousand for a body shop to install it, make it fit right and paint it. And if you don't do it right, it will look like crap.

Add to that you need to buy the correct width and offset wheels to fit your now 2 inch wider fenders, plus tires to match. All of this on a V6 is a big waste of money. And I don't think the V6 is under rated at all. Its properly rated as a base level motor at best.

Sell your V6, add to that your body kit money and buy a decent GT.

Thank you for the advice, I'll do some digging around looking at at GT500's. The cost of working on the V6 would add up.

Big bucks to do that project, may as well buy a GT500...My .02....kev

After the V6 is all built up with it's wide body, it won't be worth half what you spent to build it.
