Hey everyone I have an 08 gt 5 speed and I would like to hear your opinions on trans fluids. I tried RP syncromesh (not impressed shit came out like water) redline mt-90 was okay then Mercon ATF which is eh. Was wondering if Redline MTL which is 75w80 will be good enough for the trans. I live in Ohio so we get fairly hot summers and mild cold weather in the winter. I don't drive it in the winter but in the event that I have to I want to make sure it's safe. I'm looking to try and quiet down the trans. It was quiet before I changed it so whichever fluid was in it before was the best I should have left it alone

It probably had Mercon ATF in it. That's what the factory uses. I've used the generic Coastal brand with success in the past with good luck.

Didn't @Gabe use a little mix of Amsoil? I've heard mobile 1, redline, amsoil, motorcraft, pennzoil. I know mine is in need of being changed as well. An 05 with 32k on it. What does tremec site say? Seems like there was a loooong post over on the sites Facebook page.

Give Mobile 1 full synthetic ATF a shot. It's been great in both my 3650 and 6060.

3.2 quarts of Penzoil syncromesh.
This. Way better than regular ATF. Not sure about your experience with the RP but then I've never bought into their snake oil sales pitch. Therefore I can't compare their version of Syncromesh with the GM or Pennzoil versions.

Im not 100% sure but i think ive tried M1s ATF..I know these tremec calls for 75W90 and Redline MTL is 75W80. I like the advantage of it being able to protect it better under high loads and hot temperatures as its thicker, not very concerned with cold as we never get below 0 here anyhow snd the fact i do not drive it in the winter. My concern is whether or not 75W80 will hurt it in any way being that tremec calls for 75w90. Either way, MTL as well as the other suggestions are better than the regular mercon thats in it

I've run RP for the last 100k with no problems and smooth shifts for a daily driven car, so I recommend it without a doubt.

I used that and it made my trans super loud and when I drained it, it came out like water

Mobil 1 ATF has been great in my TR6060.
I never had an issue with the stock Mercon V in the TR3650.

RP synchromesh destroys synchro material <- internet anecdote

I use the cheapest parts store dexron 3 I can find, the car has never shifted better after I did replace the blocker rings, shimmed the slave cyl. 3/8".

When I had a 3650, I ran Dex V, Mobil 1 Synthetic Auto Trans Fluid, and Pennzoil Syncromesh all back to back. The Syncromesh was the smoothest ... and it wasn’t even close.

For the record, I called and emailed Tremec first. Though they reportedly told people years ago that Syncromesh was okay, when I contacted them recently they would only commit to Dex V or Mobil 1.

penz or gm synchro = ok
purple stuff = no

It's too much thinking and money for a trans in a street car. $30/quart for fluid! Get out of here. I spend 400 on blocker rings that the trans actually needed, hit the cones with red scotchbrite, filed the face tooth my friend broke off of the 1-2 slider, $2/quart for fluid, much better.

I didn't like the way my 2010 was shifting, and went with Pennzoil Syncromesh. Shifting improved.

The biggest improvement to shifting was installing a Blowfish bracket to hold the shifter itself to the trans mount, not using the body mount, and switching out to an MGW shifter, though I'm sure the bracket would have fixed the stock shifter issues, too.

I have used Royal Purple synthetic ATF for almost 100k miles in my 5 speed 08 GT. It definitely shifts better than with the stock fluid.
Don't use 80w90. This transmission was designed for ATF.

I've changed to Mercon V in a TR3650. Same as the factory fill. Tremec says you can use Mobile 1 synthetic ATF if you want although I have no experience using it.

BTW... Redline MTL is designed as a replacement for GM synchromesh. The viscosity rating is throwing some people off. Redline MTL is GREAT stuff.

Yes I was concerned of this. So it will be okay to run it and forget about it?
