Anyone have experience using PA converter? I am doing a 6r80 swap and was going to install a converter. I was talking with PA they recommended a PA68202 but not sure if they make good converters.

PA has been around for a long time and I have run their trannies in the past but never their converters. Personally I would go with Precision Industries, Circle D or Yank Performance. Those are very true and tried brands for performance converters.

The reason I was considering PA68202, the cost is about the half the Circle D. I am on a tight budget my trans is going out and figured while in there might upgrade. I also looked at Precision Industries and their prices are reasonable as well. I am actually leaning towards the Precision Industries converter as he will make it to my exact needs.

You get such different information from manufactures its confusing. I have talked to Hughes, PA, PI, TCI, Edge, Conan none of the information is consistent. I am trying to stay around 3000RPM. One says run smaller 10-10.5 converter will work better even on street. Will provide 3 multiplier torque and lock up. while others says not for street use to use a 12" and small are less efficient. They both offer 3000 stall and lock up

I also get different information on the converter size. I was told the stock 6R80 converter was 10.5" and others are saying 12". Does anyone happen to know what the actual size of a stock 6R80 converter is? The only thing I can think is one is including the mounting tabs and other is not.

The stock 6R torque converter is roughly 11", That's the size of the internal turbine [how conveters are sized] not the external case.

Most converter builders are still living in the past daze of Powerglides and Turbo 400's when it comes to sizing and stalling a converter, so take what they say with whatever painkiller you want.

I'm not seeing that PA converter listed but for $600 I'd surmise it's a restalled stocker.

The stock converter is a twin disc lockup type and it's actually pretty stout. I don't know your power level but guys have gone 9's on a stock converter/tranny. You'll probably break the intermediate shaft before you have converter issues.

Stock stall is roughly 2700rpm so if you're going to the trouble of R&R'ing I'd go higher than 3k on the stall speed.

The larger turbine are recommended for big power adder cars as theoretically they should hold more power, the smaller turbine is recommended for lower power or NA cars as they'll spin-up faster.

I'm using a REVMAX 9.5" 3600 stall on my swap. It went 10.20's @140 before I lifted another head ...

That PBH swap was popular mainly with the GT500 crowd and people who want a factory look and tuning and had an extra 10-grand laying around they didn't need. The Quick6 is a pretty simple install and fairly easy to set-up.

Good luck

Phone Circle D about re-stalling the stock converter. Pretty cheap in comparison and those guys know their stuff.

Thanks guys I never thought about re-stalling the stock converter. I'm not boosted just bolt on's currently so low power.

The PBH set up is only like $2K, not sure where $10K comes from...

There is already a 3v out there with the Copperhead PCM running a 6r, the added tuning ability is amazing.

The Quick 6 is certainly easier to install, I'll give you that. I have a Quick 4 and 4r70w, it's been a great combo
