Fuck Royal Purple. The detergents in their manual transmission fluid caused premature wear on my synchro blocker rings and many have experienced the same problem. Because of that bad experience I won't spend the extra money for their motor oil, gear oil, or any other product they make. And I give zero fucks about the testimonials from their representatives saying how great their stuff is. What I do give a fuck about is the testimonial from a guy who has rebuilt 100's of rear axles and not getting paid for his testimonial. I remember when Royal Purple first got big about 10 years ago. Horsepower TV did a test where they swapped out all fluids for Royal Purple and got like 12 extra horsepower. Probably $50 bucks extra for the Royal Purple brand for just 12 horsepower and then hundreds more spent in repairs 25k miles later.
I smoked two Ford manual transmissions before I took this seriously, its ridiculous that it is even possible with a "top shelf" product.

Remember spike TV and all of car shows they had on Sunday mornings? Don't remember the exact show but I remember the episode. I think it was an early 2000's Camaro. Dyno Run. Changed all fluids to Royal Purple. Engine Oil, Trans, and Rear Axle. Do another Dyno Run. I don't remember the exact gain they showed but it was probably about 10-15.

I remember the episode. Still take it with a grain of salt. That's enough of a difference just turning up the A/C could cause.

Yeah, "Power Block." - https://www.yidio.com/show/powerblock

There was also "Muscle car" - http://www.tv.com/shows/muscle-car/

There was one for Trucks, and I think another one called "Horsepower."

AS far as oil and HP? It can effect horsepower, but not ADD horse power.
The engine is rated at xxxHP, and changing oils won't ADD it, but using a
thicker oil can reduce output.
Aftermarket industry rags. Any content with advertising has one main objective. That said, I started using generic synthetic from walley world and my sons 180000 mile civic started wearing a lobe on the exhaust cam. I think his model is prone to this but it was still enough to chase me back to Mobil1.

Mobil 1 is dirt cheap ...... and often on sale. Anything is better than semi-synthetic...or plane jane dino oil.

Those TV shows make me laugh... like '2 guy garage'.... where they install a whipple..... then trash all roots blowers, describing the original roots brothers's 2 lobe, zero twist blowers.

Wow!!!! This thread BLEW up. Hahaha

So update. I added friction modifier and worked it in. My moaning whales or sounding like a bearing running out of grease on a wheel barrow, are gone when turning and I am still able to get fat sideways with two wheels spinning.

I can say for a fact, if you use mobile 1's version of the gear oil, get the 10 dollar FM. It says it has FM in it already, but proof is in the pudding. Moaning whales. It was burning up my clutches. I could see it in the oil already in less than 500 miles.

As for Royal Purple, I won't be putting that back in my diff. I had Zero noises with my diff. Then one day about 20k miles later I rolled up my windows without music and I heard the whining very well. (Different from the moaning whales. That didn't happen till I went mobile 1.)

I saw someone mention noise on Accel vs decel again. Let me be clear. It does it continually without variations. Whether I accelerate or decelerate. I does from 20 mph to 140mph. It is ALL the time. It only gets higher pitch the higher speed you are traveling. The volume is the same amount, always.

I have always used what is on sale, as long as it is full synthetic.

I do not use EURO oil in my VW, I use M1 or Castrol, no problems. My
TDI had 243,000 miles on it when it was bought back, and I used that
Rotella T6, then DELO 400, and that's $20.00 a gallon. I have around
140,000 on my '12 2.5 I5 Jetta. My '15 TSI had 175,312 when
totaled. So, I think I have proven that oil is oil, because I never use
what the Manufacturer says to use. Sure, they have different properties
and such, but I use whatever Synthetic I can get on sale.

AS far as properties? Check this out:
For some reason, I was getting high oil consumption with the Rotella
T6 (5W40) Diesel Motor oil. I switched to the even cheaper DELO 400,
and that problem went away. T6 would fill my catch can more than
two times every 10,000 mile change. The Delo, barely one... So,
I amusing M1 5W40 in my VW 2.5 I5, and was getting some consumption.
I mix in 2 quarts of that Delo400 5W40, and almost what I put in, comes
out every change. I don't know what it is about that Delo400, at $19.97
gallon, but it works... This 2.5 engine takes over 6 quarts of oil, so
2 DELO 400and 4.2 M1... I change my oil every 6 weeks, at 1800+
miles a week...

OP, glad it worked out. I don't think, however, you can conclude RP is to blame for your whine.

As for the groaning and the FM, that was a little more "scientific." Did you notice the noise only in tight turns?

Agreed, as I originally stated in one of my earlier posts, I can't completely point at the Royal Purple as there are too many variables.

As far as the sound in my lsd, everyday on my way to work I have to make a U-turn to pull into our parking lot. I noticed there first. I do this everyday as stated, so I had two years of never hearing anything. Then started hearing it just after swapping to mobile 1. I kind of let it play out as it wasn't bad at first. I went a few weeks and it progressively got worse. However just as i made this post, it was getting bad enough to be embarrassing as co-workers could hear it. Lol. Well, again the same day I made this post, it happened when turning at a red light of a 4 lane highway, this my original mention on my OP of it happening medium turns. Then I heard it at every turn onto another road, so much so, I parked till I got FM added.

I am so glad it is gone now.... I no longer have the feeling I am murdering my lsd.

The lack of friction modifier is to blame, hence the sound going away when adding friction modifier.
Royal Purple's blame would be the false advertising and inferior product

LOL, give it a rest. He got a whine at all speeds while the RP was in there ... no evidence RP was to blame and certainly nothing caused by an insufficient amount of FM. Insufficient FM does not cause whining - it causes moaning and chattering on tight, slow turns.

The moan/chatter he experienced occurred on tight turns with Mobil 1 and went away when he added FM.

FYI, I have RP with no additional FM. Took it out yesterday and double checked what I already knew .... no chatter or moan on tight turns

The fiction modifier is for the CLUTCH PACK only. It's to stop chatter
and noise when one axle is turning faster than the other; around turns.
It has nothing to do with whine. Whine is lubrication, pinion bearing
pre-load is loose, gear or bearing wear. The friction modifier has no effect
with the metal to metal teeth contact, hence not needing it for any
open differential application.

RP just isn't what they claim, I don't use, and I never have used it. It's
just for expensive bragging rights applications. M1 with FM is just fine...

The sound went away once the friction modifier was added, pretty good indicator that there was an issue with the lack there of.

As far as whine/groan/chatter the sound being properly labeled is semantics.
I didn't say RP caused the issue, I said you have to use friction modifier with it, then I added that it is a low tier product.

Clutch packs will make noise in a straight line, you don't realize how much lane drifting and road unevenness contributes to one side overrunning the over and producing noise.
This becomes really evident as a point of comparison if you've ever driven a spooled vehicle on the street.

Rocket, I'll try one more time, cause I think you missed a detail .... the clutch sound was with the M1, not the RP. The sound went away when he added FM to M1.

There was no clutch sound with the RP. He complained of whining with the RP, which has nothing to do with FM. And, there is no proof the RP created the whining.
