After a long haul getting my steering wheel to stop vibrating it came done to how I put my wheels on. I usually hand tighten. Torque to 50 then drop the jack until the tire touches and torque to 105.

My good friends at Goodyear worked with me and we basically torqued the rims while not dropping until the tires touch the garage floor. Kinda tough

Design of lug centric rims was a mistake imho.

I have read many posts about steering wheel vibration. I hope this will help others.

Glad you got it figured out, but Ford rims aren't lug centric. Even the three sets of reproductions I've been through on different cars were lug centric.

Now the 24" rims on my old Exepedition were lug centric. But the imbalance I had with those turned out to be a couple of bad tires. For that one I would snug it up then drop it until the tires touched the ground. Then I torqued it evenly. Once I had good tires I never had an issue.

Hub centric can be a bitch to get off. I prefer lug...In my mind it is more precise...
I think you might have that backwards on being more precise. On a correct hub centric set up the rim is easily centered on the hub. On a lug centric set up theres usually play between the lugs and rims so you have to make sure the rims are centered as you tighten.

You're right that they can be a bear to get off if they're seized. But it's never been anything one of my big hammers couldn't handle.

And it won't let me edit my original post, but it should say the repro rims I have/had were hub centric.

hub centric is much better..... why ? Because if you see how the most tire shops balance the tires/wheels on the balancing maschine - you can see in 95 out of 100 times that they use a quick connect nut to center the wheel on the maschine. Result is improper balancing - if the whell must be balanced via lug centic
