Aren't you a little too old for that car? (Answer)

Well, I´ve found an easier solution:

1. Whenever I feel the question is coming I strike first and introduce my car as my "midlife crisis mobile".
2. This takes people of balance, they usually give me a look and start thinking of a reply.
3. Before they say anything I ask "what do you prefer? a married mid life guy with a nice ride or a married mid life guy chasing tail or pretending to be a teenager?".
4. Since must of the time critics are soccer moms, they just stay quiet for a bit and then they have to admit the car is the best choice (if they answer).
5. Sometimes they try to strike back with the "not a family car" argument; my instant reply is: "well, that´s why my other car is an SUV ;)".

Sometimes I´m tempted to add the fact that my kid and my wife love to cruise in my car as much as I do, but why waste time on haters?
Great!

Told my wife after buying used cars and trucks and even and old school bus for transportation putting my kids through private schools I was going to buy a car to work on and make it my personal ride of choice. Drove home off the dealership lot a brand new 2006 gt. I work on it myself and modded it and still have plans to do more. I'm 56 and my father still drives at 88. I got asked that once by a 20 something with a vett and we both laughed as I said "Hell No!" I stopped to get gas and a older man in his 70's was fueling up his bike as his wife waited and I got out and said, "Nice Harley." He replied "Nice Mustang." Not once did I think they were too old to be out. I hope to be 88 years old in my Mustang getting gas as a young 56 yo rolls in with his favorite ride...

That Torino was sweet! Whatever happened to it?

Thanks. Sadly, I sold it when I went to law school, for a LOT less than I had in it. REALLY wish I had kept it... At the same time, my cousin had a yellow 1970 Torino 429 SCJ Drag Pack. Before the rebuild, mine wasn't even close. After the rebuild, I still couldn't beat him, but at least put up a respectable fight. :)

By the way... That picture is one that I still carry in my wallet, and I sold the car in about 1980. LOL.

Thanks for all the great responses! Keep them coming. I am 61. My wife (great lady) said "you've driven junk all of your life, get a car you can enjoy." I bought this '06 GT with a modified, nice sounding, H-pipe exhaust about 2 years ago. It had ~30K and I paid $10K. It's quick enough that people tell me it seems like it has more h/p than advertised. The stripes are custom. I wouldn't have done it, but they look nice. Thinking I may look into some minor h/p increases in the future.

That just cracks me right up. "hey ricer boy, I see you are missing 4 cyl's ".

LOL. Yeah... Her stock, fully loaded, ecoboost, twin turbo, all wheel drive SHO ran 13.8 in the 1/4, and the ecoboost Mustangs are supposed to be in high 13's as well, and easily tuneable to get some big improvements. She's only had it for a week, so we haven't been to the track yet. But, both of those would pretty easily beat my fox body when it was stock.

I'm 53 and am still enjoying my 06 GT. My father drove a 96 Cobra the last seven years of his life, passed away at 83.

RIP - You will be missed
Ever get that question? What is your answer?
Can't remember that I have. All my neighbors and most of the folks I worked with all knew me as the 'car guy'.

Closest I can recall was from a 50-something guy I already knew from another forum and finally met in person at a track day. What he knew about me from the forum hadn't prepared him for finding out that I was 71.

I gotta say, kinda like another member said earlier in the thread, I’m a little surprised by the demographic on here.. I’m 30, I can only hope I always manage to hold onto or have a fun car like everyone on here has!

I've never heard that question, but my answer would be "Fuck off! I'll drive whatever I want." Same answer I'd give someone complaining about my car's fuel efficiency or emissions as well as a complaint about my truck's size.

I was told to move my truck at work once because it was "too big". My reponse was it takes exactly the same amount of space as any car out there....one parking spot. I still had to park in a different lot though. BS.
lets see the truck!

My older brother got an '03 GT when he was 18 and I dreamed of getting mine since that day. I finally got my '06 GT new when I was 18 and I made sure I didn't fit the stereotype of wrapping it around a pole as so many thought I would. My father then got an '07 GT shortly thereafter.

The years have gone by and my father upgraded to a '17 GT PP. At 31, I'm just as into my car as I was at 18. I just completed an engine and trans swap and have no plans on slowing down anytime!!!

If people ask why I spend so much money on my car my response is usually pretty simple. "It's my hobby, I have a house, I have 2 vehicles, I'm not in debt. There are much worse things I could be up to"

My wife just go a 2019 Mustang last week. Only half an engine... She got the Ecoboost. But I think a tune will liven it up a bit. LOL. She just turned 55 and was worried that she might be "too old" for a sports car. But... She loves it. Her last car was a 2013 Taurus SHO.

Bigger turbo and inter cooler and she’ll smoke you lol

I love the looks I get from Ecoboost drivers when they think they get to stomp a stock looking 2007 GT. lol So good. Not to mention I sound way better shifting gears past their open window. lol

I am 33 and still got the mid-life crisis bit from about everyone when I bought this car. My response has been, "I have been to poor to get cars I like in the past." I really don't care what people think. This is for me, not them. I like a lot of other comments I have read. I was surprised by the responses thus far regarding age. It seems our demographic is getting fewer and fewer. No wonder the country is such a mess..

Lund has managed 330 rwhp + a whopping 416 rwtq from the mustang ecoboost eng..... with just a 93 tune..... nothing else. On paper, with globs of tq, it should be good in a street race....or the strip.

I would hope she'd need a little more than that. Don't ecoboosts, with upgraded turbos, make roughly 500-550 at the engine? Mine is supercharged and makes 563 at the wheels. In any event, I suspect we're going to keep it as is, at least until the warranty expires.

There's a couple that was around here before he got transferred. He has a 15 or 16 EcoBoost. She has a 14 5.0. I know he had exhaust, intake, and tune. I could hear his BOV. She had exhaust and a tune I think. She kept spanking him at our little wannabe track. He said he needed more mods.
