This is my first swap and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. It will be going into my Base model coupe, but I was wondering if I will also need to swap out my 5 speed stock transmission for the base and replace it with the cobra trans? I am a newbee to most of this but I love working on my car. I appreciate any input. Thanks

What's a Mark IV? Can't place what it is.

What car are you starting with? The 3.8 ended in the New Edge cars.

His post reads like he's on the wrong forum. I think he's talking about doing sometime to a New Edge v6 car. I also have a sneaking suspicion that he's a younger guy. Which is fine. We all were younger guys at one point. I'm not convinced he knows or comprehends the level of work to engine swap nor the ramifications to getting such a car on the road legally.

I don't like to tamping down enthusiasm, but sometimes reality checks are needed.

I also am assuming it's a new edge swap. But he may have an 80s Mark VII fox with the 3.8L and doing a cobra swap?

If it's a new edge it will need a K member as push rod to modular engine maybe brake booster. If it's a Fox Mark VII need k member and definitely a brake booster along with several other parts.

Wiring is the hardest part

I started to swap a 3.8L fox Thunderbird 15 years ago to a 5.0. Like all good projects starts with good intentions, till start to see it is not as easy as magazines claim it is and the project gets sold.

Did a 3.8 to 5.0 swap in my dads fox ltd a long time ago. Just swapped an entire 86 stang 5.0 harness in.
Didn't seem to hard for wiring really........

My biggest issue was I didn't have much support. I was 19, non of my friends was really into cars. Internet forums was there but not great like today. Put in the 8.8 rear and bunch of other stuff like a built AOD transmission. I was confused on the wiring, no one to help me so before I yanked the engine then obviously undrivable I just sold it.
