The problem is every car is so god damn expensive that buyers have to buy a do everything car and get as much capability as they can. Add to that that everyone thinks they NEED to have coffee warming cup holders, multi zone heating/cooling, internet connectivity, leather seating and many other ego massaging options. Then add that think they have to carry piles of crap with them everywhere they go. And they have to haul Susie and John and their friends around to whatever activity it is that day. And you end up with the perfect storm of I can justify buying a bland do pretty much everything I have to do SUV and not justify the small less capable, but just as expensive maybe more expensive sports car.

The real down side to that is if Mom and/or Dad are not into car and the driving experience, Susie and John will probably also not be into cars. And then their kids will not be into cars. I think we all see where this is going. The candle is burning. Unless a new candle gets lit the fire will go out eventually.

I didn't know cars came with heated cup holders. Thats insane. I refuse to get internet in my vehicles. It really seems like a total waste of money.

My dad as an adult wasn't into cars. He would always talk about his GTO that he had as a teenager. How a passenger couldn't reach up and grab dollar bill off the dash board b/c of all the power. Of course his stories are a bit over blown. He certainly misses those days. He would do so much street racing he would have to fill his tank three times in one night. He's been to the track a few different times when i have raced. He loved it.

Id have to agree that people are more into SUV's and crossovers. Honestly it really seems as if the scene has died off a lot since 05-12.

Call it something else and it would be great! With the name Mustang I’d never buy one.
Equestrian GT would work or something like that!

Ford were going to call it the Machiavelli but that would have caused a storm 'cause it's Italian like Ferrari, so instead they abbreviated it to Mach-E. ;)

The market's already saturated with SUVs and crossovers so every time I hear that a new model is being launched, my reaction is "Oh God, not another one!".
In the meantime, sports cars are in danger of becoming extinct. Do people only want to drive boring cars these days?

Average new car buyer these days is 50+ years old and this is the sort of thing they are buying. Easy entry/egress, high seating, lots of creature comforts. So that's where the market is going unfortunately.

I also think we are only going in the direction of more and more people viewing a car as an appliance and nothing more. Most new vehicles just seem completely soulless to me.

There is a quote that I can't remember that came out of one of the Ford's in the 70's predicting the end of cars being special and nothing more than a way to get from point A to point B. Or something to that effect. I wish I could remember it.

We are approaching a point where vehicles will, for the most part, be about cheaply and efficiently and cleanly getting people from A to B. They are pretty much a commodity at this point. My wife just bought a minivan (made the most sense for the money spent). It's nice. It's fairly powerful and returns pretty good fuel economy. It's cavernous inside. Factory options where trim levels. Looks nice, but not a ton of style.

It looks like a Ford Fusion with Type-2 diabetes.

I don't give a shit how fast it is. It's a fucking minivan. Call it literally anything other than Mustang.

In some pictures it looks like a pile of shit. In some other pictures it looks less like a pile of shit. In a couple pictures it actually looks decent. In every picture it does not look like a Mustang.
