CAMC Wheels

I’m looking at making the move to CAMC this year and I’m looking for recommendations on wheels. I want to use the Yokohama AO52 315/30 18 tires.

I know there are some older threads on this...just checking to see if opinions have changed

18x11 ET52 with 25mm spacer on the front. You'll need the ARP studs on the front.

Apex EC7 is a solid choice in 18x11. It is ET52 and you will need either a 20mm or 25mm spacer and longer studs on the front. For just a little more than the price of the 2 sets of ARP extended studs you can get the Ford Racing hubs with them already installed and save the aggravation of replacing them. I went the cheap route (I run autocross only) and went with 19x11 SVE wheels when they were on sale and can get either Rival S 1.5 or RE71R in 305/30r19 sizes.

Either APEX EC7 or Forgestar CF5/F14 in 18x11 and all will clear big brakes

You started at the right spot - look at the tires you want to run first, then buy the wheels to hold them.



For the longest time we sold almost only 18x11" wheels for the S197 Mustang - there were a lot of good choices in 315/30/18 tires. Then those choices started to disappear about 4 years ago, and we were left with two "200" treadwear tires: The Falken 615K and the Rival-S (see below). The Yokohama A052 is brand new in this size and gives us one more choice...



The A052 does look fast, and the shorter 315/30/18's height (25.5") needs to be in your calculations for final drive gearing. I assume you have some sort of S197, and for autocross you need to look at your transmission's 2nd gear ratio + final drive ratio + tire height + max RPM of your engine to determine max speed in that gear. The goal is to shoot for around a 70 mph terminal speed in 2nd, for most "SCCA type" courses.

If your local club does tighter courses only then 70mph might be too high. If your club does BIG courses then maybe you need to look at 75 mph, or possibly using 3rd.



We ran these calcs for my 2018 GT and the 4.09 rear gear + 2018's MT82-D4 2nd gear + 7800 rpm redline + the 26.2" tall 305/30/19 provided the best gearing for 2nd gear + also on road courses. It all has to work together for what you want to do.



For the last 4 or so years the tire options for 11" wide wheels had really shifted to the 305/30/19, so we have been selling more of the 19x11" wheel options than the 18" versions. Maybe this A052 will breathe new life into the 18" options once more.



Give us a shout at Vorshlag if you want to talk about an 18x11" wheel. We have a few options from Forgestar, CCW, and some others. The F14 has the most choices in 18", all the way up to 18x13".

Thanks for the info. The wheels are for a 2008 Mustang GT. Our local events are on smaller lots so the shorter tire should help with gearing

Another data point to consider... the 305/30r19 tires (Rival S 1.5 or RE71R) are considerably cheaper/less expensive than 315/30r18 tires at this time.
