Why would this happen?

For the past year, ever since I had Lito tune my Mustang, I had to let the car idle for 20-30 seconds before putting it in gear or the car would stumble and die. This is not bad considering the cam and supercharger. This was MUCH better than the FIVE MINUTES of idle needed with the Brenspeed tune.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I had a TCI Streetfighter 2800 stall torque converter installed. No tuning. Now, I can start the car and almost immediately put the car in gear and there is no stumbling or dying. I’m not complaining at all, in fact I’m quite happy with it. But why would this happen. I don’t know.

Probably due to the lower resistance of the looser converter.

Have you talked to Lito about this? He made a few revisions to get my car to behave better when cold. It used to hesitate badly pulling away from the first stop sign 200ft from my house, it is much better now.

No. After initial 20-30 seconds, the car runs perfectly.

My car has done this for several years. Doesn't bother me as I always let a car run before taking off. Old fart with old habits. I usually start my car and then by the time I buckle up my harness I put it in gear and it goes just fine. Been through various tuners including Gil at Shelby Motorsports here in Vegas. I never could find a definite cause or reason. I will attribute it to the two step colder plugs needing more time to heat up to operate properly and run with that.

Thanks.

It never bother me either. I always wait a couple of seconds of idle to build oil pressure before moving. It’s nice now that I don’t HAVE to wait. I just wasn’t sure why it was happening. Now, if it would only stop snowing, I could try out the new TC.
