I suspect you're going to need a thin spacer for strut side clearance (I'm thinking 5 - 10 mm). If you were looking at either 285/35-18 or 295/35-18 tires I'd have a better feeling about not getting fender-side rub, especially if your car is lowered at all.

With a 10mm spacer, you'll get about the same amount of sidewall poke (but less wheel poke) that I have in my sig pic.

Thanks Norm. My car isn't lowered at all currently, but its on my list of things to do.

Do you think I should go ahead and get the tire store to order a 295/35 for the front?

Could be a tough call - at about 26.1" tall, it may be getting close to the rpm difference relative to the front wheels for what the ABS system will tolerate. I don't know what your rear tire size is. A closer choice that's still do-able on 10" wide wheels would be 275/40-18 (about 26.7" tall).

Here's a couple of plots comparing the 295/35 and 275/40 tires (on 10's) against your 235/50's on 8.5's with +50 offset (pretty sure that's what the 18x8.5 offset is). I've shown a 10mm spacer with the 295's and a 5mm spacer with the 275's.

Thanks for the help! If it turns out the 295's don't work on the front, I'll have the store order 275/40/18's.

You may also want to consider 285/40/18's which have stock height of 27" diameter. Measuring rim width is 10" with section width of 11.4" If 11.4 section width is too wide for the front? I suppose adding a 3mm spacer would help. Otherwise 275/40/18's would be your best option for the front suspension. Anyhow, Continental does offer the Continental Extreme Contact Sport in 285/40/18" sizes if interested

Here it is! I ended up going with the 295s all around. They fit tight, but no rubbing that I could see or on initial drive. I put a 5mm spacer on the front, but may try it without when I get home.
