FYI you can switch off the TPMS light and alarm with forscan software.

I have a 2006 GT that has OEM wheels and tires from a 2016 GT which I assume has TPM sensors. Is their an android app that would read the sensors. I'm not familiar how TPM works and don't know if that is even an option or what kind of wireless transmission TPM uses (wifi, bluetooth, rf etc). Thanks.

Guess what? I got a flat tire today. If I had TPMS, I might have caught it before I left the house. Rim leak from pitted chrome.

If you checked your tire pressures once in a while, you would have caught it to.

How do you know I didn't? I could have checked them 5 days ago when I brought home my pickup with new tires from Discount Tires and added air to get the pressure I wanted since they wouldn't do it. You know, filled air compressor and pressure gauge in hand and all. But then you couldn't snark about it.

It just bothers me that supposed car guys complain about making cars even more idiot proof. I have nothing against tpms but as a car guy you should notice when a tire is low, either by driving it, looking at it or checking your pressures. Freshly mounted tires are exactly when you should check them once or twice extra so that you know there aren't any issues. Tire stores don't clean the wheels like years ago. They just slap on new tires and send you home. As a result bead leaks are more common. Sure I was being a smart ass but you should know better.

Wow, I wish I could turn mine off. But to each their own. If you can’t In confidence look at your tires and tell if they’re low or at least check them then you shouldn’t drive. Guess they mandated this option in 2007 so since mine is newer it *has*. To have it. -_-

I never said anything that would reflect that I can't tell how full my tires are by looking at them. Did you read this thread at all?

No? You’re reading into my comment all wrong.. I’m just saying I wish I could turn mine off. And the fact that these are mandated now is ridiculous. If you drive a car, you should know how to check your tire pressure or tell if they’re low. Not have some stupid screen ding at you when it’s low

Ya people here informed me about that. Sounds like a little bit of a headache.
Yes it is not so easy. The whole system would be useful if one can see the actual pressure in the display. So, its a dumb system only to obey the federal rule.

I believe a tool like Forscan can read actual pressures as reported by the sensors. I know this works on my 2008 Ford Van. So if you had an android based device and installed Forscan lite for android, in theory, you could setup a customized display of data read through the OBD port. Never tried the android version of Forscan, that version may not have access to the SJB. If you mount a laptop in your car like the cops have, you can do it. lol

FYI, if you rotate the tires, you would need to retrain the sensors, or the display will report the wrong tire has gone flat/low.
