ok, reading thread after thread, trying to decide what to try here, so, i'll just go blunt.

wife wanted a mustang. bought her one. she and I both love and hate the car. wants to customize it.

it's got a 6, with that wretched 5055 trans. I want an 8, why? seriously? You need to ask?

that being said, I can have the slushbox rebuilt, or, just yank it, and, replace it....I know there is another one that bolts right up, but don't remember model number (47....something?)

also, will I need to replace the rear? that part, I can go scrapyard on...engine a trans are a no way...been there, done that, never ends well.

without making my life any more horrific, what engine and trans combination will go in here easily enough, and, let her have overdrive, and air conditioning
. it doesn't need to pull flat 10s in the quarter. this is going to be more of a show car, but, a 6 just sounds like this farting through side exit exhaust.

Sounds like you need a same year GT doner car. That way it all should just bolt in.

Actually you would be money ahead to just sell your v6 and buy an 11-14 GT. You would have to replace almost everything on your car doing the swap. As stated, the only way to really do it on the cheap is to get a wrecked donor car a transfer everything.

You can't use the 5R55 from a V6 on the V8. They are the same transmission, but different bell housings so it won't match up.

The "easy V8 swaps" don't exist for your 2007 V6 Mustang. Period.

Maybe if you bought the same year GT the 4.6 swap could be done without major hassles, but then you'd have to buy a (presumably wrecked) car, swap the drivetrain, swap the wiring/plumbing over, and in the end you have... a 4.6 3V Mustang. 300 screaming horsepower. And you would have spent many months and thousands of dollars to upgrade your V6 car. Wee!

This is a LOT OF WORK to get you nothing that you couldn't have gotten from the factory, or in an easy used car purchase/car flip. Why not just sell your essentially low value V6 and buy a Mustang GT with the engine swap "already done"?????

It is always SMARTER and CHEAPER to do this:

1. Pull any parts off your existing car that you "love" (custom/irreplaceable parts or high value aftermarket parts that could work on the V8 car)
2. Sell the V6 Mustang
3. Buy the factory equipped GT with the V8 that you can afford
4. Swap over the parts you pulled
5. The end

If you really want a V8 Mustang you should do the above and buy a 2011-14 GT with the 400+ hp Coyote. This is an upgrade worth doing. But don't swap in a Coyote to your car... trust me.

We just did a 2010 GT race car Coyote swap. It is a shit ton of work and using the Ford controls pack harness is a huge kludge that loses a lot of features that you get in a factory 2011-14 GT. Making the electric steering work is expensive, time consuming, and harder than you'd think. The factory gauges too. Lucky for us this car had no heater, no AC, and a digital dash. It was still a pita - and we do this stuff for a living.

Remember - a lot of people on the internet just give advice they heard from other people that have never done this work. NOT ALL ADVICE HAS EQUAL WEIGHT. We have sold hundreds of swap kits and done dozens of swaps since 2002 - I'm not trying to trick you, I'm trying to save you YEARS of headaches, a stalled out project, and problems to your marriage (seriously). We've seen this play out hundreds of times - an ambitious swap project that could have been accomplished with a car sale/purchase in days rather than years.

Engine swaps have their place, of course. We always try to talk to prospective customers and give them the pros and cons of doing a swap. PROS: Getting something utterly unique, adding a lot of potential with some new powerplant, etc. CONS: It always costs more money to do a swap than people budget for, there are always wiring/tuning hassles involved, and it takes longer than you'd want.

My advice here - dump the V6, buy the nicest V8 Mustang you can afford (Coyote powered!), and move on.

Cheers,

I have an 07 V6 that I put an 08 bullet V8 engine and transmission in. It can be done and a nearby shop did the install. Prior to the swap I had already upgraded my suspension and rear axle. That was 4 years ago and I still use it as my daily driver. My car is a GT500 clone and all the body styling, interior swap was done prior to the engine swap. If I didn’t have that all done, I would’ve just traded it in for a GT.

Buy a wrecked car and start swapping. Or just buy a gt. Those are the two simple options. Otherwise the price is not worth it. Or turbo the V6 and learn to love that rice rocket sound.

Find a salvage title car (GT) close to the year of the one you already have. Some of them have slight damage with all the airbags blown. Instead of swapping drive train into your car, do the opposite. Use your car to repair the salvaged GT. You end up with a true V8 car, none of the headaches of a modern day engine swap, and everything works. And... it's much easier to hit your budget.
