I was wondering if it's a better deal to just buy a gt 500 any year between 11 - 14 or get a gt between 13 - 14.
I can get a 13 gt for around 17k to 24k with decent milage. I can get a gt500 with a similar milage for around 30k to 40k. There's also the boss 302 but idk what's the advantages of paying 25k+ for that trim.
A normal gt makes 420hp while a gt500 makes 670hp.
To build a gt to make that sort of power would come at a cost of both money and reliability.
I guess it also depends how much it would cost to build a gt to be gt500 fast while also being reliable.

So, with all of that being laid out, is it worth spending the money to make a gt push out gt500 power and run into the issues and headaches of boosting a car, or just buy a gt500.

My ultimate goal is to just have a fast, fun, and reliable mustang while being efficient with how I spend my money.

I'm willing to invest about 10k to 15k in building a car that cost around 17k, but I have the money to get a 35k car if it means I'll get a more reliable car and I have to deal with less headaches in the future. Basically a bit more money to buy but less money and issues to maintain in the future.

11-12 is about 550 HP. The 13-14 with the Trinity is a different animal altogether. Good luck finding one of those at 30-40k.

If you plan to keep it for a long time, building may be cheaper and you can make it like you want.

If you keep cars for 3-5 years or so, buy the gt500 because it will retain resale value much better than a built gt.

The GT500 will always be worth more money. If I had the money to buy either/or I'd buy the GT500.

My wife has a 2008 GT500 (we've upgraded the suspension and the power, up to 656 rwhp these days, from a stock of about 435 rwhp).
My heavier-modded '13 GT Track Pack is putting out less HP, much less TQ, and it still has a horrible Chinese-built transmission.

If I was to spend the $31k my car cost me new again, I'd be looking for a used GT500.
I'm still looking for the right deal so that I can end up in a GT500 too.

As a group, very few of us leave what we buy stock.
Will your wallet support the cost of a GT500,...............+ mod money ??

Okay, say I get a 2012 gt500, I've found many at the 30k price range, and stock it's already a really fun car with a much better shifter than a gt. I might keep it stock for some time till I get the money to add more power. What would it take to make that car push 600+ at the wheel?

Also what's the point of a boss 302, it's 22 hp more than a stock gt. Does it just come with more features?

A used '13-'14 2.3 TVS blower can be had for about $1500-$1700.
'13-'14 injectors $250 new
JLT 123mm CAI $300-$350
FRPP twin-65mm throttle body $600-650
Tune $300-500 plus handheld tuner $400

That will put a pre-'13/'14 GT500 at about 625-650 rwhp, about $3500, and the TB may not really be needed to get there, so $600-650 could probably come off easily, putting total at under $3k

To get a '13 GT to that level you're talking at least twice that, plus a boost-a-pump, and you'll always worry about the oil pump gears, the Chinese transmission, or the non-forged bottom end, which will go first.

Does the gt500 use a completely different trans than the gt? From what I've head those shifters have a much easier time doing fast shifting with none of the issues of a gt shifter and a much lighter clutch. I tried out a '11 gt and the clutch was heavy af.
Also, what would I even do with the old blower? I would hate to throw away a working blower.

Doesn't the GT500 have the T56?

As for the old blower...if you're talking about a GT500 one, you can always sell those since the DOB kits use them.

The '07-'14 GT500 uses a version of the T56 Tremec, it's actually different enough that it's called a TR-6060.
A MUCH better/stronger transmission than the Chinese-built crap MT82.

As far as the stock blower, you can sell it for $300-$500, as mentioned above.
There are people that need to replace a damaged/defective unit, people that are returning to stock for whatever reason, or people like Jason from Department of Boost that sell kits for other Mustangs that use the stock GT500 blower.
