Years ago when I joined this forum I had a 2005 GT.

I owned it for a couple years and had two different sets of wheels on it.

Did exhaust and had other parts to install but never got around to it. It was a great car but I ended up selling it when we decided to buy our house. I enjoyed the no BS culture so much I kept hanging around for the laughs and the tech was still really good just to read.

When I was able to buy another Mustang again I decided to go back to my roots and get a foxbody again. I searched and found what I thought was a nice clean '91 LX hatchback. I gave it a the best looking over I could and bought it.

That was a mistake. Once I got it on a hoist and got under it, it had rust in every seam. Totally saveable but more work than I was willing to take on. I wanted to start with something nicer. Expensive lesson learned. I paid it off and started looking for a better car.

Then I found this '93 GT. Not perfect but a much better foundation and it had a built 331 with lots of good parts.

So here is what it looked like when I got it home. It had 17x9 and 17x10.5 Cobra wheels. I sold them in short order. Not my style.

I had a set of Weld RT/S wheels I had bought for my LX so they were bolted on. They fit the 5 lug conversion of the LX perfectly, but with the SN95 conversion on the GT they didn't get enough thread engagement after putting a small spacer on that was needed to clear the caliper. I needed to add longer studs. I could have bought different wheels, but I had over $1800 invested in the Weld wheels and selling them and starting over was not in the cards.

Here is a picture of it as it sits right now.

If you guys are willing to tolerate my slow ass pace (and the non-S197 content) and/or want to watch me throw away time and money, I'll use this thread to chronicle my assured failures and hopefully ultimately successes.

Future stories might include "Fucked up battery relocation fix" and "What was I thinking about with a full interior swap." and "Who in their right mind pulls A/C out of a street car? Let's put it back in." Other tales of whoa might include "The T5 is wounded. Let's put a TKO600 in it." and "3.73's aren't enough! 4.10's to go go!" and "Who welds stock 2.25" tail pipes to an otherwise 2.5" exhaust? Let's put a 3" system on to fix that."

I have 95% of these hard parts, paid for, collecting dust, ready to go.

Personally love the 93 with the Cobra wheels....that's a great overall look.

Would definitely tune in for stories, especially fox related ones I can learn from given my own current ongoing project.

I'm in. One of my many regrets is selling my '90 notch retired Texas Highway Patrol car. I loved that car. Friends convinced me that I couldn't drive the car in New England for more than 3 months out of a year. So I sold it cheap before we moved.

This is going to be fun! Love me some Foxbodies. I appreciate your attitude about all of the pitfalls of customizing cars - when you watch youtube videos and read forum posts, you think that everything must be so simple and black and white but it NEVER is!

Hopefully you rolled it back inside....

I cleaned the battery cables and the battery terminals. Turned the key and got the fuel pump noise (good sign). Hit the key and nothing....nothing but WHOOMP, idle idle idle idle idle. I did not expect that. So I shoved it in gear and moved it to my other garage. Phew!

30 minutes later it got real windy. 30 minutes after that it was snowing. FUCK YOU mother nature! Fuck you for COVID-19 and fuck you for snow in April.

At least I got it inside and can commit acts of self sabotage.

Just throwing this out there. If you dont plan on heavy engine mods, but would like a little extra top end: a set of 1.7 ratio pedestal mount roller rockers is a nice upgrade.
I have a used set in excellent condition. Low miles on them. Could not use them once I built a new engine with stud mounted rockers. They could use a new home.
They add about 500 usable rpms and a little torque throughout the rpm range.

The car has AFR185's with Crane Gold Race on them. But I am collecting parts for another future build that will use GT40 iron heads and a B303 cam. I might be interested in them. I'll PM you.

When did it go from Fox to Foxbody? IIRC, sometime in the late 00s. GM people getting into the cars probably and used to calling cars F-body, W-body, A-body, etc. Hence "Foxbody". Just my random and completely useless WGAF theory of the day.

The Ford "fox chassis" platform included the tbirds and lincoln mark 7 of the mid 80's. So the mustang guys went off that, and Ive always known these as "foxbody" mustangs. 79-93.

I thin it was always foxbody and was shortened to fox. Could be wrong.

EDIT: whoops Juice beat me to it.

The list is actually surprisingly long for what was part of the fox chassis family. It was a real work horse (LOL) of a chassis for Ford.

In case anyone noticed or is wondering the GT came to me with a black cowl induction hood, bu tit my newest picture it has a white cowl induction hood. What gives you may ask?

Well, the hood on it when I bought it was a HO Fibertrends hood. I had a Cervini's cowl hood literally hanging around in my barn. It's the white one. After looking at them one day I swapped them. I like the shape of the Cervini hood better. I thought I had put this tidbit in the original post but I had an issue when I create the thread and must have lost it. Whatever.

Later when I have time I'll do a little run down of the current setup and the end goal.

Yes, the list is quite long. Maybe a generational thing. I'm in my mid-50s and we always called them "Fox". Or a regional thing. But then again, the magazines always used just "Fox". Everybody knew what you were talking about if you said something like "Nice 94, but I'll keep my Fox." Totally unimportant though. I like Fox build threads (see what I did there lol).
