Coil Springs & Struts

Looking for expert advice:
Bought my ‘05 GT used, and it came with coil springs that appear lower than a stock GT (it has been lowered, & the springs are blue if that helps hah).

I’ve been told that putting back the factory coil springs will raise the ride height to where I’d like it, and it looks like the back hub assemblies can drop down & I can put the new springs in with no trouble.

It also looks like the front has the whole strut assembly, so can I take the strut off & have my guy put the new coils on without bringing in the whole car?

Any info or tips on this are appreciated. Thanks.

Yes and yes. Jack under axle, disconnect rear shock. Put jackstand under torque box. Lower jack until spring tension is released. Swap spring. Or disconnect shock on ground and jack up vehicle. Probably a little easier to do.
Front strut needs spring compressor to swap spring. Tool can be rented from Autozone (its actually free, you get $$$ back when returning tool). Yes, required to remove strut assembly from car.

Warning, a flying spring can cause serious bodily injury!!

I plan on hopefully taking the strut assemblies off & having the coils installed separately haha!

But it sounds like you agree- if I get the original coil springs in, that should get the ride height back to factory?

It looks like there should be a gap between the top of the tire & bottom of the fender, and I don’t have that. Plus small bumps are no fun at all haha!

Yes, stock springs should get you back to normal ride height.

How old are the struts? It may better to replace the entire strut assembly, then paying someone to swap springs.

Yeah true. If the struts have a lot of miles on them you could just buy a new loaded strut and swap out the whole assembly yourself.

RIP - You will be missed
When you're dropping the axle with one shock disconnected, you'll want to remove the fastener that hold the brake hose and the ABS sensor wire. Otherwise, you'll end up hanging the axle by the hose and/or the wire.

Yes, installing stock springs will get you back to factory ride height and if you find yourself in need of stock springs I happen to have the set off my 07 Gt that I will sell you for a fair price.
